I can see that as they the put put more hits then misses...this is a brewery that produces 1000s of cases of beer a week and doesn't need distribution

Is there a NY brewery that you would have put on a list like this?

Half Acre is the best in IL? Or just the most popular? Is Stone better than Sierra Nevada? So subjective

I don’t know how many cases they produce a week, but I get your point and would agree with what I assume you think is an impressive aspect of their business model.

Probably. And probably one that offers more diversity and nuance. That was the thought behind my comment. Comes back to the definition of “Best.” Grimm (more so), Three’s (more so) Interboro, Industrial Arts? Maybe something upstate I’m not aware of? Your thoughts?

I can see grimm taking the win also... They were winning blind tastings before they even opened up their brewery.. Now that there more hands on the quality of theirs beers have been glorious... This batch of double negative has me running back for more[IMG]

I'd agree with Buriel over a wider net of offerings, I'd also add Resident Culture makes the better hoppy beers. Funny, I don't care that much for Surf Wax or Gang of Blades, but the rest of Buriel beers I've had are top notch, I happen to think Scythe is easily the best hoppy beer they make.

I think Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is also the best beer in North Carolina. It is great every time.

I was really hoping to see Columbus Brewing Co. represent Ohio . . . Jackie O's does a fine job but CBC is simply fantastic !
Yes it is. I sometimes go a couple months between purchases. Every time I pick up a sixer I am amazed . . . Crazy !

I like the BlackBerry Farm choice for Tennessee... their lineup is stellar, authentic and damn delicious....

What beer styles do you prefer from BlackBerry Farm? I had the opportunity to drink one of their Saisons at a beer bar in Memphis and while I am a big fan of Saisons that BlackBerry Saison had phenolics (medicinal flavors) that were off-putting for me.

    Cheers!

I can absolutely speak to and agree with the choice in Nebraska of Kros Strain Brewery in La Vista (an Omaha suburb).. Their Fairy Nectar Double Dry Hopped London is a killer..an absolute killer New England IPA.. And about twice a month, I drive to their brewery tap room and score multiple Krowlers of it..

If you’re traveling to the Omaha area, Kros Strain Brewery and tap room is a must visit for craft beer fans..

    Cheers!...

To be clear, I didn't ask you because I disagreed with your criticism... I was just interested in seeing what you liked. Having said that, I think Other Half fits on their list well. "Best" is obviously used loosely and not to be taken too literally (for anything like this). Let's also keep in mind that it seems like the decisions were made by a single person for each region. (None of this is meant to be taken negatively toward Other Half or this list.)

I see their list as a collection of breweries with a considerable presence of some form (and a reputation that complements it). Be it a niche specialized brewery or a Sierra Nevada. Be they "diverse" or focused... "nuanced" or sledgehammers. I disagree with their opening comment that "Other Half has moved solidly from the young upstart category to certified national beer celebrity status," because I'm assuming that "international" might even state it better. Just going with my gut here, but I doubt there's a NY brewery that has more beer geeks outside of the US fawning. That seems like reason enough to pick them.

Personally, I like drinking Suarez and Barrier and I don't have any others in NY close. There are other brewers that seem to make very good product that just aren't my cup of tea... and others that make a small amount of beers I really like and a bunch of beers I really don't. I can't attach the word "best" to stuff like this though. I don't think in terms of the "best," but rather, my favorites.

Sorry for the wordy post. I blame you for asking for my thoughts. I was just curious what brewery you'd consider.

Glad to see my choice for best NY brewery was not on the list.
    Excellent observations.

I'm always glad to see my pick for best brewery in NY State kept off of lists of this kind. Other Half a great choice, lots of existing hype and folks already staying overnight for can releases.

And no one will be surprised I am completely on board with Kent Falls pick as best Conn. brewery

The correct answer for NY is Suarez
I'm glad they selected Other Half

I think Kane is the right answer for NJ but I like Carton better.

They are a saison-heavy brewery and I like almost every one I've tried... their classic and seasonal seasons (Winter, Spring,etc...) are particularly nice... they do some nice fruited beers as well.. Buckwheat Strawberry comes to mind.. also a big fan of their Belgo Brett IPA... they did a collab with Evil Twin recently...Jeppe something or other that was really well done too... their stuff can be a little steep for everyday drinking but I adore that crew over there...

If I was pressed, based off of the beer that I have had from there

Parish (solid brewery, simply knocks it out of the park with IPA's [Ghost in the Machine] and APA [Envie])
Great Raft (DIPA [Grace and Grit] solid saisons, mixed ferm, belgian and a good grip on darker beers)
Gnarly Barley (they are slinging some mean NEIPA, but that is the limit of my experience with them)

Never in my life would I have put Bayou Teche Brewery in even the top 10

Parish is the obvious choice here and is a pretty serious omission from this list as far as I'm concerned. I mean, DDH GITM is the #11 IPA globally on untappd, Reve is awesome coffee stout that I've never heard one person not geek out about after drinking, then there's bloom and regular and DDH, Envie, pretty much the entire SIPS line, their collaborations with Spindle Tap and the Answer, etc. They're putting out amazing stuff...

Bayou Teche not being in the top 10 might be a little harsh, but yeah, I agree there are definitely several others I'd put before them.
