Ive only ever seen it at woodmans and $12 a can hurts. Im really glad i got to try it but probably will only try to buy variants unless i can get it at a lower value

I know it's not a big hitter anymore but I snagged some Great Lakes Blackout Stout and am enjoying a bottle right now. This is one of the first stouts I fell in love with back in the day and it's, IMO, still a world class stout.

I just had a can of "Surrounded By Idiots", an Imperial Stout brewed at Hailstorm; it's a collaboration with a bunch of mid-grade suburban breweries...and More, who I imagine would like their name removed from the list.

Diabeetus level cloying; I swear they straight up dumped chocolate syrup in this abomination. I like a sweet stout, but this was over-the-top to the point of parody.

I got about 4oz down in the name of science before drain-pouring. It was $5 at Bottles and Cans; if you get it for a quarter you paid way too much.

Too many cooks trying to out-pastry each other, perhaps?

Gray Skies BA Neckbeard Nectar will make my beers of the year list. Creamy vanilla with strong barrel presence. It’s really great

I wasn’t a huge fan, but I definitely didn’t think it was too sweet or an abomination. It was ok, and I did wonder if More really wanted to be associated with it because I found it to be thin, which is something I never find in Shaun’s stouts.

Well, they did call the beer 'Surrounded By Idiots'. You were forewarned.

Wasn't sure if I needed ANOTHER BA stout for this Haymarket Clare's can release, but then I looked in the mirror and said "Hey Sean, this is who you are now," and bought two.

I'm excited to see what they've got on tap for the release; hoping for an Indignant vintage or 3.

I ordered mine while in line for BA El Zacaton. This stout season, I am spending money while waiting to spend more money

That’s disappointing to read since so enjoy macadamia nuts but it’s not surprising at the same time. The wife and I went to a Vlad variant release for the coffee and maple ones and we had the same issue. The maple one was like drinking straight syrup and needed some bitterness badly. I think Hailstorm can do good beers but man, whatever their doing for their heavy beers is just not cutting it.

Points awarded for coming to your senses and ordering some.

Points deducted for only ordering two cans.

I completely forgot about this (even though I set a reminder on my calendar), but luckily @eppie82 reminded me while we were having some lunch. Promptly got on my phone and ordered some cans. Looking forward to it.

Does anyone else think it would be cool if a brewery teamed up with Oberweis to make a stout version of their chocolate milk?

It would be cooler if they called it Budget Crisis...

I don’t want at all to start a political discussion, but there are some major barriers for a local brewery in terms of working with Oberweis

Regular Ten Fidy should be $16/4 pack or so, which I assume is what he was referencing.

So I have to shout out Spiteful Brewing for their recent mixed 4-pack releases. They did a 4-pack with 4 God Damn Pigeon porter variants and now they're releasing a mixed 4-pack of Hostile Harry variants. I'm biased since I love Hostile Harry - its my favorite stout from them - but this is just a really cool idea.

Had their BA stout and barleywine from last year - both where very good. Actually bought an extra bottle of the barleywine I stashed in the cellar. Haven't had this years, but based on last years, I'd expect very good offerings.

Edit: Josh Noel had a nice write-up in the Tribune: https://www.chicagotribune.com/dini...cruz-blanca-barrel-aged-beers-2018-story.html
