I like drinking simple (even adjunct) lagers more than beers like Sam Adams when I'm in the mood for something mellow, so I'll have to give Solid Gold a whirl. But...it will be tough for anything to displace Banquet at that spot in my lineup.

I am not, however, currently in the mood for mellow and am enjoying a tasty Breakfast Stout right meow.

Frankly, I don't think it's so much better that it needs to. I'm sure it would win in a blind taste-off, but it isn't night and day.

Ideally I'd take a fresh helles over 99.9% of other lagers of any sort, so I'll defer to Bierstadt or maybe Dry Dock (depending on the season) anyway.

KBS and CBS raining down south.

Good to know. I really wish they were doing 12oz bottles of CBS.

Yeah, the 750ml bottle pricing is a ripoff, it's basically 2 bottles worth of beer for about $5 more than what a 4pack goes for

The reason I mentioned it was when they reintroduced CBS in 2017 they sent 12oz bottles of CBS to something like 27 counties, but did not consider that offering for the US. I particularly like the 12oz size because I’m the only one in my house drinking it and after the intitial pour of 10 to 12ozs, I feel the remaining 10oz or so to be a bit much. Especially those bigger beers with and without adjunct flavors.

So how does Solid Gold compare to La Cumbre's Beer?

Haven't tried Solid Gold and don't plan on it, but curious about it nonetheless....

Picked up a couple 4 packs of KBS today, $23 apiece. I didn't see CBS, but I'm not sure I'd have gotten it if I had. I will say, I've seen Abraxas in a couple places, and at $20-23 per 750 I'll call the KBS a steal.

Similar. Probably a little more "macro-y," but in the same ballpark. To me, Beer walks the line between a macro and a pils of some sort. Solid Gold is firmly in the macro camp.

Last years CBS was meh... but this years was phenominal. If you do end up seeing it; definitely grab yourself a bottle. Kinda tastes like Weldwerks Coffee Maple Achro with a hint of bacon

Anyone know when Backwoods Bastard drops here? Top 10 beers of all time for me; especially with a year of aging on it. Who needs Scotch?! lol.

I've had KBS and CBS and I'd prefer any stout I've sampled from Colorado over founders. I think they are in for a hard ride.

Still hoping for bottles, but I found Backwoods on draft down here in Colorado Springs and at $7/10oz, I couldn't help but drink 3 in a row. It's as good as ever.

At $31 a bottle, I'm a solid pass on CBS. I've had it before, but even if I hadn't there are few bottles worthy of that price (see past dusty bottle example: Fifty Fifty Eclipse). I did throw down on KBS though...but have seen four packs sitting at liquor stores the last week or so.

Yeah, I've seen a couple CBS bottles. I think the price scares a lot of people away. Especially casual drinkers that side-eye anything over $10. That's even with that bottle being larger than most. The fact that "it's common now" probably keeps the hardcores away, too. It's also somewhat subtle compared to other similar beers that smack you in the face with barrel notes and specific adjuncts. It's a tricky one. I feel like it would probably disappear if it were $5-10 cheaper. Never tried the original version, but I remember when people would have given their first born for CBS in a bottle. That fact that it sits feels odd.

Its amazing how ubiquity makes otherwise great beer taste awful

Beyond that, there's also the "I've already ticked that one" crowd. I'm guilty of that mentality when it comes to styles I don't fawn over. I tried a bottle last year and got a pour at the Yard House this year. That's enough for me. It's okay, but nothing I plan on dropping $30+ for either. $25 is usually my threshold for beers that aren't Lambics or American equivalents (a la Casey, Cascade, etc.)

I've pretty much found that maple beers aren't for me; he'll, most flavored scouts aren't, period. I haven't seen CBS yet, but will likely pass if I do. That said, I've gotten three four packs of kbs.
