Well, that's what often happens when you conceal them behind Anonymity and written communication only. You may think you and your intentions are being understood, but...

    That's what happens to you.

I have zero desire to utilize energy having anything other than flippant dialogue with emotional bottle rockets.

Noap, I've no dog in this fight. And it has now become clear you have no desire to communicate clearly. Have a nice evening.

Own it. It's ok. Happens to everyone. Sorry didn't mean to upset you - was just a joke. Apologies

To the people who complain about “sjws” and people being too PC:

Have you ever asked yourself why they are upset without immediately resorting to “they are too sensitive?”

Since the majority of craft is white and male, what do you think things like this look like to minorities?

Of course things like this do not bug you because of the intense homophily that is present. Look at Foothill’s staff, I bet it didn’t offend them either. All middle aged white people.

Cultural appropriation has been used for centuries to profit. Nowadays folks see it and say something about it. If you are reading this and rolling your eyes, why are you so uncomfortable when people who do not look like you become uncomfortable?

Craft beer as an industry has the power to be more inclusive, after all we all want to sell more beer not disenfranchise groups further.

I guess they should have just put eddie murphy's in costume pic and gone for the big lawsuit instead.

As much as it pains me to admit it, the Liverpool fan is talking sense.

I'm staggered that this thread hasn't been locked yet. I've been cautioned by the mods for saying more temperate things than are being said in this thread, and I'm on the side of the angels.

The side of the angels. Some of you went off the deep end a decade ago, but I'll say what I feel like saying here anyway.

First you presume to speak on behalf of what you imagine are morally indignant black folks.

Then you presume to speak on behalf of what you imagine are guiltist white folks.

Now you top it off by presuming to speak for "angels".

Individual people speak for themselves. This is a radical concept but if you raise the veil on your entitlement and your sanctimony it may be of benefit.

Yeah, I've always felt that when white people speak up for minorities saying something is offensive to certain minority groups it seems so demeaning.

Minorities can speak for themselves. They don't need others to tell them how something should make them feel.

There are definitely instances where it crosses the line into self-righteousness, but otherwise it’s known as empathy. Not a bad thing if everyone operates with a healthy dose of it IMO (not specifically around race-related stuff, just every day in general)

This is a tough one. The knee jerk reaction is to label this political correctness gone mad. This type of scrutiny of and the constant framing of situations to fit a narrative of white dominant power relationships or white dominant interactions and situations can take us down a rabbit hole eroding relationships we are trying to build between races and people of color (and yes being white or Caucasian is a color). Scrutinizing what is supposed to be fun loving and applying a hypersensitive lens without grasping for some common sense in these matters invokes a reactionary and overly emotional response which falls into the area of interpreting social interactions and situations to fit a narrative of racism or whatever (fit the word in here). On the other hand Foothills beer - Sexual Chocolate is named after the fictional band in Eddie Murphy’s Coming to America yet the label has the pic of a tastefully dressed and beautiful black woman. Problem is Sexual Chocolate points to male misogyny directed towards black women. It would be unfair to label this white male misogyny as I have heard white men, black men and Hispanic men refer to black women as "Sexual Chocolate". I don't think I have heard this term used to deface black women in a long time. Calling an African American Woman that just sounds stupid. Being Hispanic, my wife being African American - we enjoyed out times at Foot Hills Brewery in Winston-Salem as well as other cities in North Carolina. The vibe of the people there in Winston-Salem (as well as throughout the state) was welcoming and cool. Great people. And the bottle of Sexual Chocolate? I thought the pic was cool. It amused me that an outstanding and deliciously made chocolatey, dark beer was called Sexual Chocolate and that a tasteful, beautiful black woman graced the front of the bottle. If you are an African American Woman you may think it was distasteful and stupid. My wife loves the beer.

Two good articles I read on the counter point to this...

    I did all that? Golly.

Pretty impressive, I say, especially in light of my only having posted a couple of times, and briefly, in this thread as compared to your 700 contributions to these 9 pages.

(Also, for readers less adept at discerning tone, please note that when someone claims to be on "the side of the angels," they're almost always being archly ironic.)

Sure - that makes sense. However, note that I didn't start the discussion. In fact, I was merely suggesting that this probably shouldn't be a discussion. This reminds me of a bunch of men talking about whether something should or shouldn't offend women.
