Looking for recs for mid-afternoon lunch and a couple of good beers tomorrow around the area of the junction of Essex, Union and Morris counties (so roughly in the triangle of Livingston - Morristown - Summit). Moderately priced, good basic food, etc - no need for the fancy (expensive) or the exotic. (Easy parking a plus ). Haven't been in the area much... in decades...

Stirling Hotel in Stirling fits that bill IMO... they have a sister restaurant, Stirling Tavern, in Morristown as well... a bit more "upscale" relative to the hotel, but not fancy by any means.

Oh, yeah - I used to go there in '80s with friends who lived in Scotch Plains and Bedminster...(tap list has probably changed since then, I guess  - and the prices).

Poor henrys in Montville great tap selection ,not fancy, easy parking but 15 minutes out of your triangle. Lots of good morristown options ,hop craft bar , end of elm , Stirling tavern , office ,etc. But paring in motown tends to blow

The Stirling Hotel is the best choice and you can read the beer list on their web site. http://www.thestirlinghotel.com/. The Office in Summit is also good but parking is a PIA. The Prestige Diner in New Providence is a real diner but it has a full liquor license and it's beer list is Jersey heavy.

Cloverleaf Tavern in Caldwell is great. Slightly out of the triangle you mentioned but worth it.

Poor Henry's and Stirling Tavern are good recommendations as well. I've also heard good things about Morris Tap & Grill on Rt. 10 in Randolph but I've never been.

All good recommendations above but if you are actually in Summit you can check out The Office Tavern downtown or Hat Tavern in the Summit Hotel. And if you are in Florham Park the Thirsty Turtle has standard bar food and at least a few decent things on tap whenever I am there.

If you’re around Union County and more specifically in that Exit 135-136 area off the GSP, you’ll have some great options.

Paragon Tap & Table (Clark). One of my favorites spots. They have great wings and the rest of their menu is amazing as well. Always some really fun stuff on draft there. The buyer is a really cool dude who loves craft beer.

The Station (Garwood). Another great spot with excellent food and a killer draft lineup. What I like most about this place is that it has a blue collar vibe. Plenty of locals and none of that pretentious BS you see at some of the more well-known craft accounts. If you love wings, ask for “Brian’s Brother” and you can thank me later.

Cranford Hotel (Cranford). If you’re going for “cozy” then look no further. Their tap list is smaller, but absolutely never disappoints. They are always heavy on 12 Percent and Sarene brands (Omnipollo, Stillwater, Evil Twin, etc.). Great food as well with always-changing lunch & dinner specials.

Thirsty Turtle (Cranford). Right down the street from the Cranford Hotel. They have a more expansive craft selection with some occasional gems. They also make these filet mignon spring rolls that might be one of my favorite things ever.

Ava’s Kitchen & Bar (Kenilworth). This place is pretty new. They opened maybe 6-7 months ago and have a really great tap list with over 30 handles; very heavy local NJ presence if that is your thing. Their menu is very different as they’re all about locally sourced ingredients. If you’re looking for some greasy apps, this isn’t the spot for you. However, they do have absolutely amazing pizza so if that sounds like more your thing you won’t be disappointed.

Ha - thanks for the "Cranford" area/just off the Parkway recs - but I was hoping to not do my "return" portion of my trip via the GSP, but take 78/287 home.

I spent a lot of time in the area in the '70s, pretty sure I stopped into the Cranford Hotel once or twice - but it was probably too "upscale" for me at time and I spent more time in the Riverside Inn. And in the 90s a bar a block or so away, Antone's (maybe?) had a pretty good craft tap selection for the time. IIRC, that was converted to an "Irish" bar by new owners.

Event was postponed but I've got the recs for "next time" and I appreciate everyone's suggestions (even tho' I was sorta shocked at some of those prices and ABV's at some places. Damn I just want lunch with a couple of nice beers...).
