@Squire most native brookies up here that are stream born and reared rarely exceed 8"-10". I fish rivers that are part of a larger lake run watershed. In the spring, Brook trout in the 10- 20" range and up to 5lb class move into the rivers from the lakes in pursuit of the smelt run, and shortly after, the sucker spawn. They remain in the main stem of the larger rivers through the summer and move into the smaller, colder tributaries in the warm summer months in search of thermal refuge when temps begin to climb. In the fall, the spawning run begins, usually late September, after a large dam release of water or heavy rain. Our season ends well before they settle over spawning ground in October for conservation reasons.
