Decided to crack open this one from 2/6/11. Haven't had one of these since the beginning of this year. Really liked the few bottles I drank then, but wow, this is a lot different than I remember, and for the better. Kinda wish I held onto it for a full two years, but since it's coming back anyway, not a problem.

haven't had this in about 2 or 3 years and my opinion hasn't really changed...good for a one off but not something i'd ever drink a lot of.

Totally understood. In my experience, even Notre Dame at its best can be hit-or-miss. The last two times they went 8-0, they lost to Boston College—so when we played BC, despite their 2-7 record, I wasn't taking that game for granted, either. Personally I don't think Notre Dame will ever be a 100%, indisputably all-around dominant football team, partly because they don't compromise (as much) on some things like academic integrity. But, that's purely my personal bias, and I acknowledge that. In defense of their shaky moments, though, I will say that every Notre Dame fan I know practically twitches every time Tommy Rees is put in to play, because it just feels like everything is on the verge of falling apart after he throws a few passes. It's nerve-wracking.

Do I feel like Notre Dame's gotten lucky? Yes. Do I feel that Notre Dame deserves it at least as much as anyone else out there right now? Yes. I have no idea what will happen in a week from now, but the bottom line is that I'm enjoying the hell out of it and excited by our prospects. Still, props and utmost respect for everyone else in the top 10 after today.

    Cheers (saude), indeed!

So I'm torn here. On the one hand ND beat a Stanford defense who just made Oregon look pretty mediocre. But, ND also barely beat Michigan (and scored only 13 points) after 6 MI turnovers. Then again, Michigan's defense has turned out to be pretty good over the course of the season. Obviously I'm a bit biased since the only ND game I watched the whole way through was the Michigan one.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is im not sure if Notre Dame is really good (they certainly could be), or if they're just a decent team whose got some breaks ( also plausible).

They've gotten some breaks, but if you want some evidence pointing towards the strength of the Irish defense, watch the ND-Stanford game. I don't think that was a fluke.

Yeah. Especially watch that last play, which should have been ruled a touchdown.

Not really doubting the Irish defense (IMO only second to Bama in really shutting down Denard/Michigan O), it's the offense that looks most suspect.

Again, this is my limited analysis based on mostly the Michigan game, and a little of MSU and Purdue games. Only watched highlights of the rest.

I think we can all agree that next week is going to be an awesome weekend of college football (UM / OSU, Stanford / UCLA, UO / OSU, ND / USC)... probably some others too!

Funny, I remember saying something very similar in 2005.

Trust me, I sympathize, but ND played rock-solid defense and that won the game, ultimately.
