Hey all, I'm coming to Ocean City Maryland from New Hampshire for vacation 4th of July week. Was wondering if you all would be willing to help me find some good beer either in or very close to OC or on my transit.

I already have Burley Oak pinpointed which is less than 5 miles from our rental. They have some nice stuff releasing on the 29th the day we get there. I don't want to go too much off the interstate as its a long drive but anything good in Deleware and NorthEast Maryland would be great. Mostly like Ipas, IIpas, Stouts, Porters.

    Thanks in advance.

Dogfish Head has a brewpub in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and a Brewery in Milton, Delaware. They are both an easy drive to/from OC Maryland. If you are driving down, I would recommend stopping at the Brewery in Milton and having a flight and stocking up on some beers.

When you’re in OC you’ll enjoy Burley Oak it is very close and easy to get to, and they have a wide variety of beers.

    Cheers!

Dewey is awesome in dewey beach. Not too far from OC. They have awesome food as well. Tiny brewery on the boardwalk called backshore is solid if you happen to be in the area.

Thanks everyone I do know about Dogfish head but I can get them where I live. When I Vacation I try to drink super local, small good breweries that I can't get back home.

Burley Oaks and Dewey seem high on the list.

    Cheers!

I made a recent post too, but for in Rehoboth. I too like local, but you need to go to DFH for their tour and the one offs. The tour is remarkable. We also sampled 3-4 barrel aged beers, 2 NEIPAs, Double Chicory Stout, Liquid Truth Serum on cask and a couple other brewery only beers. All in all, we had tried around 10 DFH beers that I am pretty sure I can't get here.

On your drive down, look up State Line Liquors in Elkton, MD (it's 1/4 mile off 95 on the DE/MD State Line. One of the great liquor stores on the East Coast.

All the suggestions are good above, but keep in mind driving anywhere 4th of July weekend is a shit show, especially on the 4th itself. You'll be fine getting to Burly Oak, but Rehoboth is a complete mess. If you are driving in on Rt. 1 on your way to Ocean City, two other great stores in Rehoboth to shop at would be Atlantic Liquors and Outlet Liquors, both huge, with slightly different selections.

Don’t write off DFH so quickly, they always have a scratch or “limited” series you can’t find in your local stores, last week they had a nice NEIPA that sold out rather quickly. Also the food, although typical bar fare is pretty phenomenal. I would agree taking a trip to the brewery in Milton. Not sure if this is still a thing, but on Friday afternoons they used to open up the bar at the brewery for employees, spin some vinyl and open up some of the old stuff. Not sure about their future, we’ll wait and see.
    Cheers!

Like all the above posters said Dogfish you may be able to get locally, and so can I, but, both the Brewery and the Brewpub have exclusive beers, i.e. only available at those party Lucular places. Don’t dismiss them off easily, you would be quite surprised by some of those exclusives.

The actually brewery isn't close - but you might see cans in stores. Manor Hill Farm Brewing has a pretty good Porter - I've picked up a six pack when in MD.

Union Craft also has some good canned beers you can probably find- Double Duckpin (DIPA) and Blackwing Lager (Schwarzbier) have been my favorites.

You could make a day trip to go to Dewey. Food is top of the line!!!!! PAY ATTENTION to the parking... And maybe even hit it on the way home.

Burley is a good jaunt. But DO NOT drive if you are going to be leaving after dark. Don't cross the 50 bridge after drinking after dark.

Dofish is a cool spot in Rehoboth. Food is pretty solid as well.

Out side of that, you're stretching to hit things on Delmarva. On the way down, maybe hit Hudson Valley or Equilibrium....to bring goodies with you.

Actually we are staying in Berlin so we are like 5 minutes from Burley. Going to stop on the way in Saturday as they are having a big can release. Will 100% be having lunch or diner at Dewey.

I think on the way home I am going to stop into Equalibrium to bring some beer home. Looks like it's not that far out of the way and we usually go around the city on the Tappan Zee bridge so I'm used to going that way. Can just jump on 84 East from Equalibrium it looks like. Thanks all

Well, given that you are staying in Berlin, I'll expand a little. RAR is just about an hour west on Rt 50. If you can swing it (rainy day) well worth the trip.

Burn is directly across the street from Burley. Solid wood fired pizza. Pizza Tugo's in West Ocean City has 50 taps. Really good selection.

And for the release, be prepared. Prob wanna be in line by 6am to ensure allotments.......

I'm assuming that's an exaggeration? I go to Tree House all the time and only get there 45 minutes before they open. Is it really that busy at Burley on a can release?

Yes. yes it is. Over the winter if you weren't in line at 3 am you weren't getting Jreams....dead serious. WAY different than Tree House. And about 1/50th the production of Tree House. If you just want to go to get "scraps" and not the Jreams, showing up at 930 is fine. And you'll get to hang and drink in the biergarten while waiting. Burley is serious business...

@Dukies222001 Since you are staying in Berlin check out the Burley Cafe for breakfast or lunch. It’s owned by Burley Oak and they usually have some good drafts. Also the Blacksmith Restaurant in Berlin has a great happy hour and usually has something from Burley Oak, RAR and other locals on draft. The Globe usually has a good local tap list as well as good food.

And yes as everyone else said if can hit up the Dogfish Brewery in Milton. You may even get to see and talk to Sam!

Evo in Salisbury is always worth a stop. RAR is my favorite local now but a bit of a drive from Berlin. They had a can release last weekend and may still have some left or at least draft versions with crowlers available.
