ICYMI: BrewDog released Pink IPA, a play on their Punk IPA, to bring attention to the gender pay gap in the UK; on average, women are paid 18.1% less than men. They sold it for £4 to women vs. £5. When a man attempted to order the beer at £4 he was denied due to his gender. He sued them, and won.

Ladies Night have no cover charge at many places.

Is admission different than item prices?

I'd assume the laws differ between the US and the UK. IIRC there were lawsuits (or threats of same) over Ladies Nights, etc., in the US over the years. One article about a 1999 Florida lawsuit claims they were outlawed in CA, MA and MD after similar suits.

    Well...

So let me understand their idea. Women are underpaid which is terrible, in order to make up for this we are going to charge men more? So customers, whom most probably don't own a business and are not underpaying women are now subject to discrimination in order to right the ship.
Sorry guys, you don't fix discrimination with more discrimination. Cool they want to bring attention to this as it should be but you don't fight discrimination with additional discrimination.

    Cheers

Brewdog looks like a bunch of morons on this one. First of all calling it Pink... newsflash, women enjoy regular beer like the guys and it doesnt need to be "feminized". @AZBeerDude72 is dead on with creating even MORE discrimination with this $4/$5 split. It's patronizing at best.

    Agree.
Address the issues and change them, we all want that I believe. I feel their approach is wrong and only adds to the issue by creating more issues. But hey its Brewdog, they desire nothing more than attention, so go figure they would do it this way.
    Cheers

Most bars I know and went to did Ladies night in order to get people (Especially Men) into the bar to sell booze. Loads of women = loads of men also = Revenue for a Tue night that is normally slow.

I was listening to an experimental brewing podcast and some guy sued an establishment because they were having a women’s brewing conference and he couldn’t go. They talked about how there are attorneys who find stuff like this and included ladies night where they sue for discrimination. So they can do it but they can also lead to some dbag suing them. That’s their sole job is to find stuff like this and sue for discrimination.

And attorneys wonder why they have a bad rap.

It will be an interesting decade or so for legal scholars/lawyers/jurists interested in the law and gender.

I read a UK based article about this.
The guy originally only asked for an apology from the brewery, it only went to court when Brewdog refused to do so.
The gimmick was the extra £ men paid was going to be donated to breast cancer. The Court's decision was that it is unlawful to charge someone more for the same price because of their sex. The court pointed out that Brewdog could easily have "raised awareness" in non-discriminatory ways. What Brewdog should have done either charge everyone 5£ then donated 1£ for each time a male bought one or charged everyone 4£ and asked each man for a 1£ donation.
The takeaway from this article is the absurdity of basing things on "gender identification". He was obviously a man and complained about being charged more for being a man, but received the lower price as soon as he said "I'm a woman".

I bet they would have raised a ton of money if they just did a breast cancer drive, most folks would have given more than a dollar and it would have gone to a great cause.

I'd assumed that that was a deliberate poke at the way that Big Beer does "beer for women" rather than just them assuming that anything for girls needs to be pink. I mean, it's obviously a crap stunt rather than any sort of smart or well executed attempt to drive social change, but they aren't _that_ dumb...

The bloke suing does sound like an absolute whopper, though.
