Just wanted to pop in and give another tip of the cap to When In Doubt. If that is the worst thing I'm drinking there, I'm doing just fine.

Field Study suffered for me because it came on the heels of Lollihop. Sort of a step down in almost every area, there.

They really frustrate me when their refusal to call these "tart ales" goses. Missing a great opportunity for education there, in my opinion.

    I think it's more accurate.

I hate it when breweries call a beer with added fruit and/or lactose a "Gose" just because it's kettle-soured.

I picked up this pack and what a winner, the lineup is great, can't beat the cans and the Helles is fantastic (this is the one I was most interested in since I have had the rest). Troegs is showing that this Helles will be year round and I will be drinking it often.

That's awesome, because my first thought halfway through the beer was, "I sure hope this becomes available year round."

I've had that and the Raspberry Tart Ale and think both are great examples of the style of beer.

I got the pack for $18.99. For a 15 pack, that's a damned good price, especially with the quality of the beer you're getting, although I haven't had the Field Study yet. Perpetual is always a solid beer (though I wish they'd swap it out for something else in their variety packs).

And I forgot to mention one of my favorite parts: both the best buy date and canned on date are on the cans!

Re: Perpetual I agree. It's a solid beer but not one of my favorites of theirs and getting a little old school...hell I would even be happy if they started including Solid Sender at times to give people a little more exposure to it.

What the hell is an "Imperial Pale Ale" supposed to be? You know, other than simply an IPA...

From what I have heard is that the owners didn't want it to be called an India Pale Ale when IPAs started getting big, so they called it an Imperial Pale Ale instead. Not sure if true or not.

Just posted in another thread about Perpetual and the BB date. Is it a 120 day gap?

I'm pretty sure Solid Sender is gone.

Not to belabor the point and/or derail the thread, but it isn't just the kettle soured aspect that makes me want it called a Gose. Sea salt and coriander are major players in the style, too. Both non scratch varieties have it, per their website. Fairly certain the majority of the scratch ones had them, too, but I haven't gone back to look.

And really, who cares what I think. They're obviously doing well without my input. Just wish they'd go more into some educational opportunities.

When I drank bottles of Raspberry Tart, to me the fruit was the most prominent flavor. Which once that's the case, it's so far from the traditional German version that I think the Gose label would be disingenuous.

Troegs is certainly not a typical offender, and it's not just Gose that gets that treatment. The labels of Kolsch, Helles Lager, and Cream Ale are also frequently stretched to the breaking point with the additions of various flavoring ingredients.

I can see your side of it, and I certainly am open to agreeing to disagree. For me, while the base style is fruitless, so is an IPA. We all know how many fruited IPAs are out there these days. Also, fruited Goses aren't exactly a brand new thing. Anderson Valley, Westbrook, etc...

All good. Just wanted to flesh out why I said what I said.

As someone who drinks mostly IPA, the IPAs in this pack prevent me from buying it. For some reason, Perpetual justs taste bad to me and I don't do IPAs with oats (field study).

Yep true story, they once said way back in the day that they wouldn't do an IPA (and even then I felt as if it was tongue in cheek) but then came out with Perpetual and called it an Imperial Pale Ale to go along with this.

I will have to check but from memory that sounds about right. Way too long for an IPA, especially this one, but we all know how that goes.

It's still around but the site isn't clear, as it can be found in one place but not another on there so at the very least it may be on its way out:

Sorry, should have been more clear. It might be out in the wild still from prior shipments, but it isn't being sold at the brewery and from what I understand it is gone from the year round lineup, as you may have noticed on their site. Their beer finder returns zero results for Solid Sender within 100 miles of me. Should be noted that today is the first time I have ever used that tool, literally.... so....

Maybe a once a year thing, a la Crimson Pistil? Coincidentally, that one is back tomorrow for those interested. On tap and in cans.

Idk why I thought of this, but they should have swapped Perpetual with 12 oz cans of Nimble Giant. Kind of like how Mad Elf cans were in the winter pack.

If only wanting Nimble in a pounder can is wrong, I don't want to be right.

Where’d you get it at that price? Good deal. I saw it at Wegmans for $4 more and passed...for now.
