    Hoppin' Frog -- Plum Tuckered-Out

    3.78/5 rDev -11.3%
    look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.75

Dark brown and deep mahogany red color; head pours thick initially but quickly becomes thin and fizzy. Nice aroma of roasted and charred grain with some sweet and rich fruitiness. Heavy flavors blending together; plum and chocolate with a boozy edge; sloe. Heavy body; slick and oily with a fairly intense alcohol heat; cross between thick residual sugar sweetness and boozy dryness.

This is another powerhouse dark belly puncher from Hoppin' Frog. It does have some interesting elements to it, but seems too hot and ragged to make it truly outstanding.

It’s feeling pretty warm out here in the IE - where I am celebrating the life of my great Aunt Lucy with a cold Stella Artois on draft at the Basque restaurant Centro Bosco:

While this may not be particularly bold or complex, it does have a rather nice, mellow balance to it that is quite enjoyable, with the roasted malt and mocha notes standing out particularly and some ligher notes of dark chocolate, licorice and earthy/herbal hops. This is a 6.70% ABV Porter, after all, not an Imperial Stout, and quite a nice example of the style at that.

Coniston Brewing Co. -- Bluebird Bitter

...I had purchased this Mosaic Records set as a CD back in the day, and being a Charles Mingus fan, loved it. But how was I to know that I'd get a hard-on again for vinyl??? Yet I spent some of my hardly-earned money to buy the four-lp set of this release recently and USPS dropped it off minutes ago. Christ, I'm loving this...

...an aside, I still remember and love seeing 'Epitaph' at Wolf Trap (outside of Washington D.C.) back in 1989 under the guidance of Gunther Schuller...what a fine experience...
