Deschutes also expanded their footprint. I don't think they made any more Abyss this year than in years past.

Chuck's got 5 cases Wednesday and sold out before the night was over. $14.59 a bottle. Chuck thinks he is getting more cases in this week.

Contradictory numbers. Last year there was 600 bbls of the stuff. Assuming that they made the same amount, that's far more than just 520 cases. Keep calm and drink on. http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/63/34420

I'm perfectly calm. Just letting everyone else know what I heard from a friend who stopped by the pub on Friday. If that's not the case, and there are more cases, great. Everyone will get some.

I don't remember it hanging out in Seattle last year. I saw it once and then never saw it (in bottle form) again.

:grimacing: Panic starting to set in! Was at PDX pub Friday @ 11 hoping to pick up a bottle (6) and was told they sold through 160 cases by 8 pm Thursday. I hope what occurred with Dissident occurs with Abyss! I need my bottles!

Eric, were those 5 cases through Chuck's distributor or his *cough* distributor *cough*? Just wondering if those first 5 might have been early for the market or if we should all panic because the Abyss sky is falling.

It's interesting to see how everyone's palates perceive things. Based on what others have said, I think I'm the odd man out here. I had the Abyss flight last week, and found the '08 to be very good (I actually enjoyed its lack of carbonation, and how it allowed for all the subtleties to come through), as well as the '11. The '10 actually struck me as the most lackluster of the vertical. With all that being said, the event was very enjoyable. Being continuously greeted with free '12 Abyss samples throughout the evening was awesome!

It was the distributor. They stagger releases of limited release beers so that not everyone gets all of them at once. At least that was the case for Dissident (got three cases a week after the first round).

I'm pretty sure he only uses his gets the dock sale items because he knows people who are already going down. Only time of the year he does it to my knowledge.

Yep. That's what we were told as well on Sunday at the pub. So far I haven't seen any around at my usual spots (West Linn MofC and MacAdams Zupan), and the guy at Beermongers indicated they had not yet received their allotment. He indicated he planned to place the order that day or tomorrow (this was yesterday), and that hopefully it would come in by today or tomorrow. So it sounds as if the beer is just now being released by the local distributor in PDX, which I guess is why it's so scarce (at least in PDX).

BTW. Apex currently has the 2011 Abyss on tap (as well as the BB XXIV) for those who might be interested. I think the price was $4 or $5 for a 6 ounce pour.

Westlake whole foods got 5 cases today, crisis averted! No bottle limit though, so get it while it's hot! I grabbed 3.

Did you mean the Bourbon County Stout was not going to make it out west? Where did you hear this? According to Goose Island they brewed more of it this year and they said it would be available on the west coast the last week of November.

California, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. (week of Nov. 27).
