Look pal, I'm going there this weekend, quit toying with my emotions with that cosmic mumbo jumbo. Are they releasing Bones Shirt or not? I can't find any intel.....

Kidding of course, and def hoping for that and maybe something else.....cheers

Not sure about bones shirt but I’m not getting my hopes up. The post I think was just about crispy little, even though the bones shirt labels were also visible. More interesting to me were the labels with an “H” on them on the top row. I think those are for While. And it looks like the roll has already been used

Bones Shirt at some point; nonetheless, you're in for "ALL KINDS OF FUN" this weekend + The Shack should be quite lovely on Saturday -

Random question. Catch a Wave (which I've never tried) is listed as an IPA on here (and on beer menus). On Suarez's website (and untappd) it's referenced as a pale ale. The ABV sounds more in line with pale ale as well. Can someone confirm either way?

The reason I ask is that @cavedave and I were smugly showcasing Suarez as a brewery that doesn't make IPAs in the latest anti-NEIPA thread, so this listing is c*ck-blocking us a little. If it's a pale ale we should get the listing fixed and return to full smugness.

I'd trust Dan and call it a pale ale since it's listed on their website that way. I agree it should be changed/corrected. Not sure why someone would designate it as an IPA (to sell more of it?) when it's described as a "west-coast inspired pale ale."

    It is a pale ale.
If you look at the Beer Advocate definition of an IPA Catch a Wave falls outside the ABV parameters. Again, this is a situation where you can blame Canada. @Sammy the BA who added the beer (incorrectly) is a Canadian and you know how they are...

The description on BA also says pale ale so yea I'd say its a pale ale.

If you go to the beer you can suggest an edit and ask it be changed to a Pale Ale

I had it this weekend and can confirm it's a west coast pale ale.

Also, the brewery was great this weekend. Ran into crazy traffic on Friday, but I was still able to get two pours and a bunch of to-go beer at 6:50 and I still wasn't the last one out of the taproom. I drank the rest of the draft list Saturday afternoon. Can't wait to go back!

Cool yeah. Of course would defer to Dan, but also (if he's of the Shaun Hill line of thinking) I remember back in the day being at HF and seeing one DIPA being characterized as an Imperial India Pale Ale and another as a Double Pale Ale (looking at their website it seems that's not the case anymore) so just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything

*i made the change. You must work in finance @SammyJaxxxx #plsfix

Catch a Wave seems to capitalize on more American hops than Dan’s only other west-coast inspired ale: For Kicks, which used “extra pale pils malts.” So, perhaps the OP was just trying to differentiate between the two. Regardless, the classification is a hazy one and is really reliant on the brewers intent/classification = Pale Ale

+ BA guidelines here further cement the argument, for the change, as pinpointed by @SammyJaxxxx

On a separate note…looks like these are getting some usage today

50 minutes each way would have me there twice a month. Here on LI I’m about 150 minutes each way so it’s three times a year, including twice this summer so far.

If they start classifying their pales and crispys as IPAs, I might need to make the journey once a week.

My current dream is to buy a retirement home between suarez and HVB but I have a feeling that when I retire in 20 years this location won’t be as desired...

I got my parents car for the weekend, albeit to keep an eye on my grandparents for a few days, though they luckily live 30 minutes from Suarez.

But as a lifelong NYCer who's taken subways everywhere his whole life, I have no idea how people outside of the city enjoy breweries. Even after barely over 8 oz of a 4.7% beer, I was hemming and hawing over where one more might make things difficult on the road back. That said, great space, great beer, I can't wait to get designated driven, or at least driven by somebody comfortable driving less than 100% sober.

I used to make equilibrium runs once a month from my old spot when I lived about 45 minutes away, so I can see myself going to Suarez at least monthly.

We actually bought a house between HVB and Suarez in Dutchess county and spent a good amount of time researching the area. Afaik property values should be okay as long as you pick an area with good schools and access to good NYC commutation. A whole lot can change in 20 years tho.

My wife usually ends up driving us home. She only drinks sour beers, and a lot of places only have 1 or 2 on tap. This arrangement gets flipped if we go somewhere like plan bee or HVB and I become the DD. In those cases, I place myself and stop drinking well before I know we're about to leave.

Yeah I’m not following the area not being desirable in 20 years comment either. As the Hudson Valley becomes more and more popular / has more and more $ pumped into it, and as flexible/work from home arrangements become more common, I would have thought the whole area would trend up.

I work in commercial real estate finance. Both clients (developers etc, looking to build/acquire) and colleagues (patagucci-wearing finance bros going up there for weekends/vaca) have become more and more interested in the area (which is obviously a massively mixed bag) over recent years. But maybe I’m missing something about this specific county.

I have seen the area in general "trend up" for the forty years I've settled here. This has been something I have disliked to happen. Perhaps to @alexsergio this sort of development also is a point against, not in favor, of this area. We are slowly becoming suburbanized, and even where I live that trend moves closer and closer
