Oregon Brewers Festival (https://www.oregonbrewfest.com/) kicks off today and runs through Sunday. I'm a fan of this festival for it's relaxed nature. $10 for a mug, $1 per token. Tokens get you a 3oz pour, 4 tokens gets you a 12oz pour. You can bring your mug back all 5 days and there's no real fencing so you can just come and go as you please. I typically pop in and out a couple times over the weekend and try some breweries I've never heard of. At least it's not 90+ degrees this year.

Looks like lagers are very well represented this year! I'm kinda surprised Natian is still around, they don't seem to ever do anything new or exciting, I swear they send that Cease and Desist to every beerfest.

I thought the overall selection was a bit more interesting this year, and was very pleased by the number of lagers on offer (as alluded to by @dphi).

Can only go one day, and looks like tomorrow is going to be that day.

Festivals don't grab me anymore. Maybe I'm just too old but I'm content to suck on a beer I grabbed at John's Marketplace today in my hotel room after a Black Butte XXXI at Deschutes:

I don't go to very many either any more. However, the OBF is the exception for me. I enjoy it and try to go every year. I like the venue and low key vibe, and have always had a good time. Looking forward to stopping by early in the afternoon tomorrow (before it gets too crazy).

I think I agree with you. If I had a fest like that near me, where ya could come and go, especially over a couple days, and not have to put up with heard of Brotatosalads, I'd be interested.

Truth. The ability to come and go makes the OBF special. If there was a festival to go to it would be this one. I wish we had a festival so well run. I just didn't feel like it this year. Plus, my stay in PDX is very short with much to do.

Their beer is solid, The taproom only serves beer so don't go hungry. They have a nice patio that overlooks one of the golf holes at Salishan. We always stop in for a drink after clamming.

Any recommendations on other places to check out down there? Food?

Depends on how far away you want to go and what direction, The entire coast from Lincoln City to Newport is dotted with first class seafood, Beer is a little thin by Oregon standards but is getting better every year,A few notables are The Horn Public House in Depot Bay, Bier One in Newport, Wolf Tree in South Beach, Old standbys are of course McMinnemins in Lincoln City and Rogue in South Beach (Not the public house in Newport) Nye Beach Taphouse is a pretty good pub with a decent tap selection. Some of my Favorite restaurants are Tidal Raves in Depot Bay, Local Ocean in Newport, Georgies in Newport and for breakfast the Nelscot Cafe in Lincoln City (cash only but there is an ATM at the pot shop next door) is very good. Right down the road from Salishan in Gleneden beach is the Side Door cafe which is very highly regarded. Trip advisor has a pretty good list of places. Good Luck!

The side trip down to Yachats is worth a stop in at Yachats Brewing if you haven't been.

I've had their beers but never been to the brewery. Not sure if the rest of our group is up for it, especially since we're making them stop at de Garde and more than likely Ft. George on the drive down.

Side trip? You are either going to Yachats or passing through. It's 25 miles South of Newport, The brewery (Farm Store) has very good beer and fermented goodies it's always worth a stop but I don't know if I'd travel 50 miles RT from Newport just to go there.

I'm sure some other activities could be tacked on, perhaps Cape Perpetua and Thor's Well? But yeah, that's fair.

This is all I found. https://shop.deschutesbrewery.com/pioneer-member-of-the-deschutes-reserve-club-p2.aspx

I signed up for the lottery for a spot. Why not, I guess - They probably get $200 a year from me anyway.

I tried unsuccessfully looking for more detail too. Until they say more, I think this is for people who like Abyss and Dissident but don’t stay up on releases. I don’t think the beers offered will be pub-exclusives or anything more rare, just guaranteed access to the distributed Reserve Series beers. Time will tell.
