Sad to see Bissell jumping on the nonsensical TIPA bandwagon.

DON'T DO IT TREE HOUSE. DON'T DO IT

It's funny that I see nothing but universal condemnation of TIPAs, yet a few breweries seem to be doing them more and more. I assume someone is buying them. FWIW, I've had a few I hated and a few I thought were great. Frankly, I don't see any particular reason people seem to get so worked up about them, it's just a sweeter, higher ABV IPA. Who cares?

Stopped by BB this weekend coming back from the lakes, everything is so good and the variety is great. Highlight might have been the Lucent, although all the classic IPAs were tasting fresh. Can't wait for Swish season - mid October according to the bartender. This is something you probably all know but I was excited to get the lowdown.

Well right, that explains the worked up part but not really the focus on TIPAs. I don’t like kettle sours but I don’t go around groaning about it every time a brewery releases one. It seems like the anti-TIPA crowd feels personally aggrieved that their favorite brewery releases beer styles they don’t like.

I can't speak for everyone but it just seems desperate from some of the breweries. They see a big player like Trillium releasing a bunch of TIPAs and even a QIPA and now all I see on instagram are posts of new TIPAs coming out from all kinds of brewers, marketing it as the best thing ever. I mean of course the style has to exist, but it's more of the follow the leader mentality that a lot of these businesses are going for instead of innovating and thinking for themselves.

For me, they seem to fall off quickly (the hop profile gets lost in the ABV/sweetness) and very hard to execute. As a (general) rule, I won't purchase an IPA that's starts with an ABV of 9 or higher. I've just found I don't like them. (Full admission tha that a friend did give me each of the three OH Green City TIPAs this year and they were excellent, but still fell quickly).

But if my brother-in-law showed up with this new BB one on his next visit from Portland, I'd happily try it. :-)

Same here. the mid 8% is as high as I go. They just get far too sweet > 9%

For me its not even the taste, its just that its a dangerous spot for ABV. Its one thing when you've got a 10%+ stout that you are kind of sipping and enjoying over a decent time frame, its another when you've got a relatively easy drinking IPA that you usually drink like any other IPA. I had a 64 oz growler of a Trillium TIPA a few years ago that was awesome but drinking that whole thing in one night was a bit much. It was "The Streets" at 10%. TIPA's are great if you want to get drunk but generally that's not really my goal.

Bissell's Trillium collab is dropping on wednesday. A double IPA called Thompson’s Point Pale Ale...

Just so happens that I’m headed up to Portland on Nov 1st around 4 pm, coincides with a swish release. Anybody know how quick swish sells out? I had it on draft last year, wasn’t everything I imagined but oh well

It will depend on the batch size. No guarantees it will last a day. This first release seemed like a huge batch. Not sure if batch two will be the same.

Swish released today at noon and sold out at 1:54
I got up here at 3:30
Absolutely brutal. Got a draft and tasted great but walked out with DDH substance so maybe that’s good

My out of town friend got stuck in that today too, but he was lucky to get to the front with two cases left. I was shocked. I told him he’d be fine all day, so he didn’t go until about 1:30. I assume it was a much smaller batch than last time.
