Yes! I'd be pretty cheesed off if I logged in to write another review only to find the site didn't exist anymore. I'm glad I got a heads up so I can create backups of everything I've written on BA so far.

    The only constant is change.

it’s interesting to see comments from so many people being negative about an app they either don’t use or have never used.

To me they serve two completely different purposes - discussion forums versus a (for lack of a better term) beer Instagram. I don’t rate beers so maybe that’s where I differ.

I rarely come to BA anymore, maybe a handful of times in the last several years. I won’t go into details about why. But hopefully this merger breathes some new life into BA and there can be a variety of harmonious beer related avenues to explore, discuss, learn, share, etc...

When you're done, mind getting a head start on mine? Shouldn't take much longer

Untappd is such a great tool for research, travel, etc. Just as an example:

You've got a work trip coming up in two days to Des Moines, IA and you need a little help on where to and what to drink. I can look at trending beers within 20 miles of Des Moines and 10 seconds later I have a good feel for the hot breweries in town. Want to go to a bar within 5 miles of downtown, yep that's there too. Oh I see that the highest rated bar is a place called El Bait Shop, which has 250+ taps. Oh lookie here, their tap menu is on Untappd and it was updated 6 hours ago. I wonder if they have anything that I'd like to try? Well let me exclude beers that I've had. That looks like a good one, let me put that on my "Des Moines" list. Hey I just noticed that while I'm in town, Confluence brewing is having a special bottle release of their new Russian imperial stout.

I've used untappd for tons of trips and it really comes in handy. The great thing is that you can use it for any purpose you want. Don't want to look at reviews...don't. Don't like to see what's trending...don't. Don't want friends..don't. I just can't imagine any beer lover not finding it useful for something.

No, the base set of users are not going to give 5 page long reviews about mouth feel.

    This:+1:
I have an Untappd account that I've never checked in or rated a beer on; I use it for travelling and UT is very good for that.

There are many folks who use both platforms, but there are also many of us who have no need for a “social” app (I haven't “checked-in” anywhere since 2012 or used Facebook/Twitter since 2015).
I have no interest in telling people where I am, what I'm drinking, or competing for the most beers/bars, but a lot of people enjoy that. More power to them.

All I really want out of this is for BA to thrive, well into the future, and for our forums, reviews database, and knowledge base to remain separate.

I have to admit, I had no clue why I started receiving that magazine referred to in this post that I never saw!! Mystery solved. And thanks (belatedly) for giving me somthing when you couldn't do the magazine yourself any longer.

First off, congrats to the Beer Advocate owners. Hopefully, this is a weight off their shoulders.

I love enjoying craft beer. I love Beer Advocate. But as you will see from my profile, I am an active member (on the forums daily unless I'm in a period of taking a break from drinking) for a long time but have reviewed two beers. I just never felt qualified based on the detailed reviews other people delivered on the site. In fact, back in the day it was frowned on to just give numbers so I never thought much about it.

I became an active untappd user at the behest of my best friend. It's the only form of social media that I post on. I actively follow on twitter, IG and even still facebook to keep up with things that interest me (mainly sports, beer and food) but never post. I'm in that tweener age where it's just not of interest to me.

Untappd is great for being able to quicky check in (often without anyone noticing you were on your phone), check whether you've had a particular beer (and whether you liked it that day) and also follow what friends are drinking, what other locals are drinking and first reactions of a new beer at the local brewery. I openly admit my checkins are elevated because I do check in everything when I get a flight. There's enough ratings though that everything is directionally "correct". The one negative of untappd is that I do believe it makes me drink more than I would if I didn't have a profile or a count of what I was doing (but that's no different than a regular BA reviewer, I wouldn't think).

Yeah, being able to backup our reviews would be a phenomenal feature. It's just always good to have backups.

I’m glad to hear that there has been a move to bridge the two main beer sites (not withstanding RateBeer) while sustaining the inherent value BA has worked so hard to preserve. Ultimately I had become frustrated with BA when given the option of so much more convenience to track my beer activity with Untappd. The mobil app was so much quicker to develop and user friendly so I all but abandoned BA outside of occasional visits. But I’ve always recognized BA as the standard for discriminating beer lovers so I hope this move ultimately can marry the virtues of both programs, the app-friendly fun convenience and shear “volume” of Untappd and the more serious, depth of BA. My greatest dream would be to be able to add my beer histories together from both databases! Good luck Todd!! Durge

I've never heard of Untapped. BA has been my sole source for beer news forever

Maybe I'll be able to upload pics to BA?? That's the biggest reason I've shifted to Untappd recently and don't post much here these days. Would be surprised if I'm alone in that regard.

This will undoubtedly bring a new group of users to BA. I know a lot of my European friends use Untapped almost exclusively, although they have always been interested in the extensive forums on BA. This would be a cool way to bring together the two camps.

I think this merger will work for all stakeholders, except for this thread the change has been transparent, and I believe it will continue to be so.

I worked for a company that had an “unsustainable business model”, this company was bought by a very large company and I’m still here. Positive changes have been carefully implemented at a reasonable pace. I believe the same will happen here.

    Cheers.

Untapped is a juvenile attempt at a website.

I signed up and deleted my account within a few minutes after seeing the crappy interface that makes twitter look like NASA.

It is nothing like what I want in my life, thanks.

I really truly hope this does not change Beeradvocate.com in any way shape or form.

You think the lack of being able to show off one's bar setting pour or dirty glass pour at home or rare custom glass instagram pour nonsense is causing more people to shift to untappd? I thought the bros addressed this, in a bit of a tongue in cheek manner, before...about how no one wants to see 'your' improper pour.

On a serious approach, I sure as hell don't want to see that and would hope that if implemented there would be a box I could check off to hide photos. I'm not a fan of the idea of scrolling through reviews and seeing 'artfully done pour to the brim so there's no head and it looks like orange juice' beer pictures. Okay, I've learned the color of the beer from that picture, or, the person could use their big boy words and textually describe it's appearance.

    ^ THIS!

You have diplomatically voiced my loosely caged hatred over this exact issue. Great minds are forced to either quell their greatness and pander to masses of drooling, witless imbeciles; or write with effort and excellence only to be ultimately underappreciated.
