This one was at least a better read than the Vice article from a month or two ago, I'll give it that. I also can't say that it was off base about much either. I just always sorta cringe when I see these articles surface. That said, your suggestion to have a beer has been followed and enjoyed.

I've just recently started trading (1 official and 5 under the table), but I would like to think that this community here would have enough respect for each other to not gouge. I know I don't.

@beertunes I've even gone out of my way to find folks some more obscure BA IS from the likes of Fremont, Skookum and Black Raven and I think most folks here respect that kind of effort and trade in kind.

    Just my 2 cents.

Agreed. FWIW, I don't do straight up trades any more (I mostly roll in the BIF world), but when I do, It's more where somebody I know will reach out for something they think I can get, or vice versa, and the answer is always sure. The difficulty often comes in the second stage: Whatta want want back? I dunno, whatcha got cool? What's your definition of cool? I dunno dude, wutevz, can i get back to you later? Sure, but....? No worries, we'll figure it out later.

I've got so many of these things, sometimes a box shows up, and I'm like wut? Or, I'll see a new, local thing, and it'll ring a bell "hey, dude said just send some thing, some time, and I think he'll like it, and out it goes. And almost invariably the response from the recipient is "Y I get this?" , and sender is, "I owed you", "no, we were cool bro", "wait, wut?" and on.....

The type of trading presented in the article I posted is anathema to me. I've never wanted to "win" or profit from a trade, I just like beer.

Mike from Virginia (Veil and Triple Crossing beers) and I have a casual trade thing rolling where it's come to once a month we'll just send each other a random box and neither party complains. We've dialed in each other's vibe and it's good. I have no plans to get as deep as you have but it's fun to come home from work sometimes and a random box is on your doorstep

I'm relatively new to the BA world, but I've been active in the Facebook trading world for a little while now. I think the "max profitz" attitude described in the article is much more prevalent in the Facebook world. Most everyone here seems incredibly generous, and just excited to try new things and also share the things that they're excited about.

We do have a certain level of "shitlordness" here, but it has faded. But, IMHO, if one approaches the thing in a certain way, one will be responded to in a similar fashion.

IOW: ShitLords will find their level, and we'll find ours.

I don't trade beers but find the subject interesting. Dues anyone think that a person who pays $115.00 for a bottle of Pliny the Younger will ever drink it.?

Funny to see subpoenadeuces (using his BA name, some will know) interviewed. Not sure any more needs be said about that. His unhumorous, realistic insight was a good addition to a good article. It portrays accurately the state of today's trading world.

Not sure what some folks are paying for them but you can go to the WBAYDN thread and see somebody drinking that or Elder acquired via trade daily so pretty sure they aren't letting them fade. Luckily I can spend less than half of that on gas and go see a junior hockey game down in Portland and have some on draught sometimes.
