Was at Naperville waiting for well over an hour. A line developed for which i was near the front. The beer guys comes over and says we can't wait there that because his guys need to get through the aisles. He would take our names and numbers and raffle the cherries which should be in any minute. There was 11 of us there.

Needless to say several of us got stiffed and didn't win the raffle. Somebody who came after we all had waited got mine... Kinda bummed but whatever.

I stopped in there around 2. I'm sure the crotchety old guy that I gave my raffle ticket to promptly threw it away once he was out of sight. Dude was real pissy that people were in the section buying beer. I guess Nate was on a break when I stopped in.

seriously? that makes four folks from the infamous "ORIGINAL 11" that didnt win one!

CONSPIRACY I SAY. I wouldnt be surprised if they only raffled like 4 and split the rest between the dudes that work there

Ha.. I wouldn't doubt that. I'd feel better about not winning if I'd seen them pull the tickets!

some stores, jewel included, have been drastically upping their craft game. look at what happened to the armitage foodsmart. it was okay before, but they've drastically expanded their selection to the point where they have a giant cooler on the back wall full of it and an additional aisle of shelf.

just because it happens to be inside a major grocery chain doesn't mean that all of the stores in the chain have to sell all of the same product. the jewel by me would probably never carry the stuff, but yours might.

and no, foodsmart didn't have any coffee or cherry when i stopped there today.

Dave at the River North Binnys said he saw two cases (!!) of Cherry Rye (!!!) at the Jewel (!!!!) off DesPlaines and Kinzie last Wednesday (did you pick up on my disbelief/shock?). And we know at least one Walgreens got Cherry Rye, too. I suspect that these stores want some piece of the limited/rare release game and could even be holding shelf space/end caps hostage in order to get them. But no one is suggesting Cherry Rye is easy to get - only that Coffee isn't quite so impossible.

Which, still, isn't to say that there's so much Coffee this year that even Jewel gets it; rather, someone at Jewel, somewhere in the hierarchy, is catching up to the fever that these releases seem to produce.

In case anyone is wondering, the Jewel at Milwaukee & Paulina didn't have anything BCS-related.

Dominick's at Columbus and Illinois has BCBS in the cooler ($23.99), but I didn't see any Coffee or Cherry Rye.

Liquor Barn in Niles has at least a case.

Was looking through their (limited) selection, and over heard the cashier talking to who I assume was the beer manager. She kept asking "What do I tell people when they call?" and he kept answering "That we didn't get it. I told you" then he goes on to say that he hid it in the back so he can make more $$ in a month. I came out from behind the display and asked if they had any. She looks at him, he looks at me, "We're sold out".

Left what I was going to buy on the counter and walked out.

Yeah, it was really bizarre. I can only assume they didn't know I was standing there looking at the beer.

    What a bunch of douchebags.
