Very tasty. They must of used a ton of whirlpool hops. The store ordered too much and lowered the price from $12 to 8 a six so i got two. Big markup.

Sadly I will say I am getting some old hop taste. Which to me is a generic citrus earthy character. Still good but it will be the last 6 pack I buy. I buy it from Trader Joe’s which sells their beer unrefrigerated and it’s canned in January. Maybe with better storage it would be better but to me it’s not the same beer I had originally.

Well, I finally located this one here in the Florida panhandle and it is pretty good, though I was surprised how hazy it is.

I picked up two six packs at total wine and I’m shocked to say it’s the best beer I’ve had. It’s crazy because I’m normally a porter, stout, brown ale, and schwarzbier guy. I picked up some sams 76 tonight not bad but nothin like triple hopped lager. You guys that have had bitburger is there anything comparable that is easier to find?

It is a pretty unique beer. Some would call it an India Pale Lager (IPL), which is kind of a dumb name. But it doesn't really fit that description, because it is only about 30 ibus, which is less than the standard Bitburger Pilsner. It almost drinks like a Dortmunder considering the abv and the ibus, but it is fairly hazy (clearly unfiltered) and has a bunch of American-style hops. I actually can't think of a widespread beer that fits that description.

Unfortunately, I know very little of this project. I'm not sure how and why they chose the distribution footprint for this beer. It's actually not distributed in Northern California but is available in Southern California.

Yes, Scott Jennings and Brian Grossman did go to Germany to brew and develop the recipe with the brewers from Bitiburger.

I haven't even tried it but I heard the same, that it was very good.

How far north does one have to be to be included in Northern California? I picked up a six pack at a TJ's a few weeks ago in Los Gatos (near San Jose). There's was a case or two at that time but it was gone when I visited a few days ago.

I wish I had known about this. My brother lives in Campbell, and I could have had him run over to grab me a 6 pack (as it doesn't appear as if we're going to see any of it up here in PDX).

In any event, this is good news. He runs by that Los Gatos TJ's all the time, so I'll ask him to keep an eye open for it.

I still haven't got a hold of this one yet, but I'd imagine that certain types of APAs are closer to being a substitute than anything in the lager realm. Non hazy, that's for sure, and crisp and well attenuated ones would be the place to start.

It's a seasonal, but Victory Summer Love might do the trick.

Emailed Bitburger they suggested I try a liquor store 15 miles from my house. I called and the guy said they had a case, after work I swung buy and picked it up and had him order me another case

To me this beer tastes alot like an APA, around 6% abv, heavy on American hops, dry finish thanks to the hops. The closest equivalent to this beer that I've had I would say would be Lagunitas New Dogtown pale ale, not sure how widely available that one is in the US though. The body is a bit lighter on the New Dogtown but it's still an APA afterall, it's not Coors Light light. If you do try it I'd be curious to know how close you felt it was. That beer is my favorite APA btw, and my impression of Triple Hop'd was very favorable as well.

I thought that the collab was good but not great. I think I got my 6 in late March or early April and had my last can mid-May. The hops had died a little bit, which honestly was a good thing, as the malt shone a bit more than before. It tastes like a pilsnerized SNPA with a bit more citrus character. Instead of the biscuity malt of SNPA, you have the German pilsner.

For a traditional lager with assertive American hopping, I much preferred Oxbow's Seaworthy which uses a Czech pilsner base (double decocted). I think it did a better job of delicately balancing the hop threshold than this one did.

This was indeed stacked up at my costco a few days ago and boy am I glad for it. It's pushing up on 15 weeks old and I'm sure would have been even better a bit fresher but it's still a wonderful, full bodied lager with a nice clean hop flavor that blends in just enough piney and orange peel notes with the floral/earthy bitter notes to work quite well. I'd pick up another case if they're still there and I get back to costco before it's 5 months old

I finally ventured out to do my first beer shopping in a store since mid March and was met with the pleasant surprise of seeing this beer on the shelf.

I guess the beer Gods wanted me to have it after all .

It's such an easy drinker with just enough complexity to keep things chugging along. The citrus components do dominate, from the sweet and almost tangy orange juice concentrate quality of the malt to the clean snap of citrus peel bitterness, but there's also a nice counterpoint from the hops which seem to start floral and get more into white pepper spice as I go. Fleeting pine and apricot also pay a visit.

More importantly, however, is the easy going and harmonious feel; and crisp dry finish. I can see drinking a lot of this. Well done to both brewers.
