NBS BIF #11: Nigel Tufnels wet dream

Announcing: the Tired Hands LIF. So, as many of you know, I've been ordering the shit out of Tired Hands lately, and I really have just too many cans, so I'm going to do a small LIF to reduce my on-hand inventory (!) The winner will get at least 5 different Tired Hands cans, between 1-3 weeks old, plus a couple of mystery beers to fill up the box.

This one is both sports-oriented and a little obscure; I hope it's not too hard. If no one wins after a few days, I'll see about modifying it somewhat, or at least providing easier clues.

When I was a kid, my dad and I were fans of rival MLB teams, and each team had a very good, popular player who was never voted into the Hall of Fame, although each player was an All-Star multiple times. To win the LIF, you must name each team, and give both the first and last names of the player on each team (this should be a bit of a hint in itself). For each guess, I will indicate how many of the four parts you've guessed correctly, but not which ones (at least during the first few days). One guess allowed per person, per day.

Hint #1: Time frame is the 1970s.

Your initial hint that both the first and last names were needed was a very good hint. I thought I remembered that you had lived on the West Coast before, so once I started looking at CA rivals, Giants / Dodgers stood out. Still got lucky, though!

I was waiting to make a guess on the LIF @JayORear made until after he responded to @thebeers and @Roy_Hobbs came in with an impressive guess that I'd never have put together. I I want to make sure I at least get a guess in on this one.

I just took a drive to pick up some local beers and had some sports talk radio on, and if their speculation ends up being correct then I wish I could change my answer. Their guest, who I can't remember who it was, said that he expects the Stanley Cup to be awarded in October with next year's season being pushed back to a December/January start.

 

Nice hit by @SicDub! I love that EQ juice and have never had anything subpar from Vitamin Sea. I've gotta bite the bullet on some of those 903 Slushies next time I see them pop up on Tavour.

 

It was a local show, but they were interviewing some NHL "expert" or beat writer or something. I always have my radio tuned to the sports talk station, so I hear it briefly before switching on some music or Howard. I wish I'd paid closer attention to who it was, but my ears only perked up because I had already made my guess here.
