This was covered and discussed in the thread about Hopslam losing its essence after 2 days and SN Celebration being under-spiced this year.

My cousin lives there and homebrews!!:stuck_out_tongue:

Oh...and for IL...I recommend BCBS. If you are anti-ABInBev...try a Half Acre Daisy Cutter PA.

I don't trade... but there's a whole forum for it. If you post on the trade forum that you want some Texas beer in exchange for some stuff that we can't get here (most stuff!), I'm sure someone will oblige.

Haha with 1500 reviews and a 94 I would say you are decidedly in the absolute minority on this one. I know a lot of stout lovers and almost every one of them considers Shakespeare to be one of the finest of style.

Which Oatmeal Stouts do you think are better? Or do you just hate the style?

the beer is over carbonated and the sweetness has a triviality to it that makes it feel like somebody added sweet n low to a drier stout.
    it's gross

I prefer Telegraph, Ipswich, FW Velet Merlin, AV Barney Flats, even Sam Smiths....

Got to agree with MN and IA. Surly, I'd go with Furious or Abrasive (if you can find it). And Toppling Goliath (my #1 favorite brewery) I'd say try them all, but leave with a growler of the Golden Nugget.

I agree with you...all these awards are probably paid for by the government.

Sam Smiths is more carb.'ed than Shakespeare, and has off flavors that are supposed to be part of that English profile, but which are off putting to me. I guess to each his own.

To me Shakespeare is a clean oatmeal stout with perfect body, perfect balance of flavor, refreshing and interesting taste, about the benchmark for the style.

And I am anything but a Rogue fan, but gotta give credit where it's due.

NH - gotta go with Smuttynose Finest Kind IPA...also, White Birch's Nyx (American Black Ale) and Great Rhythm Brewing's Resonation Pale Ale are solid options as well.

Someone has to be the first to complain, right? Some of those are great beers, but for DE they go with Shelter Pale Ale? It's not even bottled anymore. India Brown Ale or Palo Santo Marron are much better and more "special" (I'm trying not to incoherently say "more unique"). There's pale ales and IPAs across the fifty states, but find me another state where they brew on some crazy tree from Paraguay.
