Holy Shit... This thread is like an episode of the young and the restless. I feel terrible for those affected but I can't stop refreshing to see what happens next.

Just wanted to thank everyone for the time you guys are putting into this. I know it’s just beer but I’m very appreciative of this community on BA.

And whatever your name is which honestly doesn’t matter to me at this point: a big fuck you!

Looking at old conversations, OSUbucks reached out to me offering a BBT2 for something i posted. We went back and forth, and then right when we almost had a deal, he ghosted me (this was just after the release of BBT2, and he rudely/justifiably ghosted me as BBT2 really took off). so, yeah, i got super lucky because i definitely would've made the swap (i desperately wrote maybe five more messages in the ensuing months). but also, kinda funny that i couldn't even lock down a (most likely) fake BBT2. ha.
but also i guess this means he had a short supply of empties and was being judicious? or maybe back then, he was trading legit bottles?

Just getting caught up on this thread but have been active in the Facebook one. Tristana123 also traded me what appears to be a re-waxed bbt3. I knew the wax job was suspect immediately upon receiving it, but having not had the beer before, chalked it up to damage in transit. I haven’t opened the bottle but here is a pic of the wax. Contact was also Brodie Underwood at the Apt. 318 address in Columbus. https://i.imgur.com/R4XHUDo.jpg

If anyone knows a good beer reporter in Columbus, get them on this. This is going to make an interesting article months from now.

Since beer trading by individuals through mail is illegal and any sort of publicity of this would increase the scrutiny about our community I hope no one contacts a reporter.

I’m kind of surprised by all these mentions of contacting the authorities. While this guy is definitely a POS, shipping beer for a trade is still illegal.

Unless you happen to have a license to ship.

Geez, cap is visible. He must have been getting lazy. It's like Harvey Dent's face. Sorry, man.

There is a UPS near me that has a license to ship beer/wine/etc. Definitely not illegal.

Sounds like a reporter is the least of your worries:

I am far from an expert when it comes to the incredibly complicated/archaic alcohol laws in the US, but surely that must a) still require that the sender/receiver be similarly licensed, and b) that the store adheres to broader local/state/federal laws - I can't believe they can just act as a conduit for beer nerds sending/receiving beer all over the country

Damn! I traded for a bbt with this guy. Unfortunately it sounds like I may have one of the fakes as well. Haven’t opened it yet but the pull tab is definitely longer than normal for SP, I didn’t think much of it at the time until now.

One of my thoughts about this all too is I hope this doesn't lead to changes in BA's policy on trading/trade forums.

I don't really trade anymore but it would be a shame if this were to cause the end of trading here.

Trading person to person like this is generally illegal but in the same way speeding 5 MPH is illegal. Still though, this guy, if caught, could actually be charged with some federal crimes I would imagine? He's shipping thousands of dollars of fraudulent illegal goods across state lines.

So is the consensus that the BBT was consumed and another beer put into the bottle and recapped/waxed or was the label removed, put on a brand of unopened stout beer with a similar bottle and then waxed?

They look like rewaxing of the original bottle with another liquid. It would be hard to find the same material they used for the pull tabs and they look exactly like the SP ones.
