Hdhc hop showers sure has changed within a week. I was scared to mention how undrinkable it was last week for fear of a huge hop showers point deduction, but it’s great right now. The melon is subtle and it tastes great.

Was going to say same thing about the HDHC Mylar which I wasn't feeling at first, but now find very tasty. Is there a general consensus that HDHC is very uneven? I'm still not all in despite the PR of HDHC week.

I liked Dank because of the, well dank. I never had mylar but my impression was it should've been better early than the citra which I assumed was sweeter at baseline. They're new, so uneven may be the result of that? Anyone actually work with this type of product Homebrewing? Or is it commercial only?

Seconding (or thirding?) HDHC Hop Showers drinking great right now. Thought it was better than the HDHC More Citra and Daydreamiest cans that I got last week. I plan on going and getting more tomorrow.

I suspect we're back where we were 4 years ago and reestablishing that OH beers are released a bit too green but delicious once they meld.

Sorry if this has already been addressed or found out, but is the amount of hopping across different ABVs with the HDHC the same? That is to say, are they hopping at a 15#/bbl rate for all of these beers, 6% to 10%.

Everyone I’d like to formally welcome @Sheppard to the thread. He hails from VA, and is a multi-platform pureboi, holding senior leadership positions in the Suarez, Fox Farm and Hill Farmstead threads, among others.

@Sheppard this is a pretty uncomfortable question for us. Technical conversations in here tend to go more along the lines of “me like citra”, “me like galaxy”, “double good, triple bad”, “this beer have tose*”, etc.

*even this statement can be notoriously unreliable coming from certain members

Since ABV comes from the malt/grain, higher ABV IPA usually have way more hops than a similar but lower ABV beer, if the goal is to balance that out. If they hopped HDHC Dream in Green like they hopped HDHC More Citra, it'd probably be super overwhelming.

Haha, I've lurked this thread and appreciate the devotion to OH. I was hoping someone had gleaned some insights from having gone there and talking to people.

Yeah, this is why I asked. I was curious what HDHC means for different ABV beers. I think the only info I've seen is that 15#/bbl is used for All Citra Everything which clocks in at 8.5%. I am with you that using that amount in a 6.5% beer would be overkill and unbalanced. I was wondering how the HDHC levels vary based on ABV.

in all honesty @algebeeric_topology may have an idea, but these HDHCs have only really started appearing en masse recently - and with Covid etc, probably less chance to shoot the shit with people there. but @algebeeric_topology is friendly with one of the owners. also @GreaserGreg works there so may have an idea

Seems Strata broke the color code, vs using the 64 crayon pack of names.

That galaxy IPA tasting y'all had like last year or the year before - I would've loved that.

You’re right...branding meetings probably went something like this...

dark blue = simcoe, light blue = strata

Aaah forget the color, the damn rainbow spectrum doesn’t have enough colors. Let’s just use the hop name...this is getting ridiculous.
