I think you are missing the point of the raffle.

I thought I saw somewhere that they weren't getting regular bcbs, so I doubt they will get the variants

Be glad you pulled a chance to win anything. I went down with my brother and his gf. They both pulled blank tickets and I'm sure they woul gladly have bought either beers you won over nothing. Also it's not as if they said this is only fr cantillon. The other beers were clearly stated to be in the raffle.

I bet a certain, unnamed store in Bangor will have it for few weeks. Thats what happened last year.

So you're complaining that you were offered a chance to buy something, basically? Would it have made it better if they had the same number of tickets and the same number of loons but no tickets for anything else? So your odds of getting a loon are EXACTLY THE SAME, but you just don't get offered anything else? It's not like you're required to buy the beer if you draw it, which I would be pretty pissed about if it was the case.

"lumping together limited beers in hopes of moving them all"? You're acting like Redstone would have a hard time selling through their stock of Bolt Cutter. I can assure you, this is not the case. They understand that MOST OF THE TIME, those of us going after the loons also probably would enjoy something cool like a Bolt Cutter. Hell, they had a Westy 12 in the raffle last time, for a penny! If you had drawn that, would you have been all pissed?

Your argument just doesn't make sense.

Appreciate the kinds words about the us and our store and you making the trip over to us but like many stores we simply do not have enough of these beers when they come in to take care of everyone. The reason we lump all of these beers into one raffle is so one person does not come in and grab all of the supply. beers like victory Red Thunder(baltic thunder aged in red wine barrels, bolt cutter, cantillion, parabola, westy, etc. do not come around all too often and with this raffle we were able to take care of 43 of our customers, by doing that 40 more people did not get a beer, but at least a chance at one that would not last 10 min on the shelves otherwise. We do not need to lump in these beers to move them at once, as we are lucky enough to have customers that would buy them. We have also tried to release cantillion by simply putting it on the shelf at other times but our regulars get the shaft as people will drive at lengths just to. for lack of a better term "cherry pick" and they are gone by the time they get there.

We welcome new customers but also greatly appreciate our regulars, trying to find a balance to please everyone can be difficult as with running a business we need these items to "draw" in potential new customers in hopes that they may make the drive out of the way for Cantillion or other rarities and see our selection and pasison for beer and become a familiar face or think of us next time they are looking for something.

That being said, I hope to see you the next time we do one of these or sooner and wish you luck that you pick a Cantillion.

I've pretty much given up hope. I think I bought one bottle in the last 12 months. Thank goodness for the Canada connect... beyond that I think I'm just going to go in for a belgium box in the new year.

Anyone in RI want to pool our $$$ let me know.

As mentioned above, you do understand the concept of a raffle, right? Noone was guaranteed *anything* much less a bottle of Cantillon. The list posted below (prior to the start of the raffle) clearly shows that both Bolt Cutter and Red Thunder were not only on the list but were the most likely (single bottle) to be pulled. It's not like the information provided intimated that the raffle was Cantillon only.

Their Facebook (also linked from Twitter) posted from the 22nd read (sic):

"So as promised tomorrow for black friday we will be releasing 6 different types of Cantillion, founders bolt cutter, a couple parabola, some alesmith decadence and a few more surprises. in an effort to make this the most fair to our customers there will be 80 tickets put into a bag 30 of which will be winners. the winning tickets will have the name of the beer you get to buy written on the back. tickets will be available at 12pm (No earlier) and limit one pull per customer.....As a bonus all packaged gift sets(both beer & liquor sets) will be 10% off tomorrow only. Good luck"

It's even clear that *some* tickets would not win at all. But the actual number of winning beers was 40 (initially) as indicated in this post (sic):

"Here is what will be included in todatys raffle: 1 btl of Westy 12(winner will get this for a penny), cantillion(2 fou found, 2 iris, 2 classic Gueuze, 2 cuvee saint- gilloise, 2 bruocella 1900 grand cry, 2 rose de gambrinus) 1 founders frangelic mountain brown, 12 founders bolt cutters, 1 firestone parabola, 1, oerbier reserva(2010) 12 victory red thunders(baltic thunder aged in red wine barrels) 40 winning tickets out of 80!"

Addiitional beers (three bottles of Alesmith Decadence maple smokeD) were later added to boost the number of winners to 43.

Also clearly listed (and pictured on Twitter).

Few shops would have trouble moving any of these beers.

    The raffle provided the following:

    1) Advance notice of the conditions of the raffle
    2) The list of beers and number available
    3) The time and place that they were available

It's about as fair a system as it gets for some very limited beers.

Full disclosure: I did not participate in this raffle, but have participated (and won) in the past.

Cantillon is not the only lambic brewer/blender or gueuze blender for sale at Redstone. You could just as easilly have chosen beers from 3F, Oud Beersel, Hanssens, Girardin, Timmermans (Oude Gueuze and maybe (?) pumpkin lambic) and Boon among the more traditional lambic/gueuze style producers from Belgium along with a host of other beers that might appeal to the preference for sour flavor (Rodenbach, Cuvee Des Jacobins Rouge, Bellegems Bruin, Liefmans etc.) that were on the shelf. You may have gone for the 'loons, but the other options aren't too shabby (particularly if barleywines or baltic porters aren't your thing).
That's funny, because in post #8 above, you said you wouldn't return.

Your post really is sour grapes and represents the sort of rampant and pervasive entitlement currently so in vogue here on BA.

    It's just beer.

Enjoy it and enjoy stores like Redstone that are passionate about beer, try to give customers the best possible options and are supportive and knowledgeable about the produces they choose to sell.

    -Kevin.

If you pull a ticket for something you don't want - you don't have to buy it.

Hey Kamal - thanks for the reply and explanation of the raffle. You and your store are a real class-act - I really appreciate it and you know I'll be back even though I said I wouldn't

wow Kevin - that was an awesome reply and use of quotes! impressed.....

to all the others who expressed dis-satisfaction with my opinion - sorry you feel that way but i was simply was just stating my opinion. I don't enjoy the raffle system - that's it. I've known Kamal for nearly 2 years now and it's his store and his raffles. His explanation makes a lot of sense to me and I appreciate him sharing it....but I still don't have to like it.

anyway: carry on you wayward sons......

I'm in RI - the only store I have ever seen cantillon at is B&C. They just sold me an Iris yesterday.

I may be interested in going in on an RI box if this happens.

I was fortunate to grab two bottles of St Lam and a bottle of Iris this year, but really wish the Gueuze was much easier to pick up. Haven't tried anything else besides the Kriek so far and would love to try out some of their other offerings.

Sure - start drinking a ton of High & Mighty beer. :open_mouth:)

I remember 12 years ago shelves being loaded with all sorts of Cantillion....which I would ignore (for the most part) at a $15 price tag. D'oh.

I'm afraid you need to plan a quick Belgium trip.
