In Celebration of National Mustard Day French's Releases Mustard Beer in Partnership with Oskar Blues Brewery

Debuting on August 1st, French's Mustard Beer will be available for a limited time at select locations across the US and online.

HUNT VALLEY, Md., July 29, 2020 - Today, French’s® announced the availability of French’s Mustard Beer, just in time for National Mustard Day. Developed in partnership with Oskar Blues Brewery, known as the maker of the original craft beer in a can, this limited-release tropical wheat beer is brewed with French’s Classic Yellow® Mustard. French’s Mustard Beer will be available to order through national craft beer marketplace and platform, CraftShack, starting August 1st as well as select Oskar Blues Brewery taprooms in Boulder and Longmont, Colorado and Brevard, North Carolina while supplies last.

French’s Mustard Beer is infused with key lime, lemon, tangerine, and passion fruit to create a tart, refreshing match for the bright and bold zip of Classic Yellow Mustard – perfect for summertime backyard barbecues. This unique Mustard Beer offering in celebration of National Mustard Day is a follow-up to last year’s wildly popular French’s Mustard Ice Cream.

“We’re stoked on bold flavors at Oskar Blues Brewery and we never shy away from a challenge,” said Oskar Blues Head Brewer, Juice Drapeau. “With French’s Mustard Beer we elevated the Classic Yellow Mustard flavor with tangy lemon and lime to create a tropical wheat ale I’d pair with a loaded hot dog on the hottest day of the year.”

“French’s enjoys creating new curiosity around a flavor that has been a staple in homes for over 115 years,” said Jill Pratt, Chief Marketing Excellence Officer for French’s. “The incredible reaction to last year’s release of our Mustard Ice Cream showed us how far people are willing to go to savor this favorite condiment. We promise this French’s Mustard Beer will not disappoint either.”

Also released is a French’s Mustard Beer homebrew recipe for aficionados as well as five new summer recipes, pairing French’s mustards with well-loved Oskar Blues originals, for those wanting to brew up some bites – Mustard Beer Basted Sausages with Onions, Beer & Mustard Marinated Flank Steak, Bacon Honey Mustard Beer Bread, Scotch Ale Beer Cheese, and Pale Ale & Mustard BBQ Pulled Chicken.

To learn more about this special batch, visit MustardBeer.com. Must be 21 years or older to enter site, order beer or taste in Oskar Blues brewery taprooms. Be sure to tag @Frenchs & @OskarBlues with the hashtag #MustardBeer to show us how you are enjoying the French’s Mustard Beer.

This is what happens when marketing departments drive brewing decisions rather than brewers...

I believe "craft beer" is their claim here, not "beer." They've been canning since around 2002 and were indeed one of the first craft brewers in the US to start canning all of their beers. Now everyone does, but back then practically everything was packaged in bottles and kegs and everyone thought cans were inferior.

I sold Smisje Wostyntje for years. It is an unusual but tasty Belgian mustard beer.

    Thanks for the info.
I realized they meant craft, but figured Yuengling or SA would have been first to can.

Interesting, I'd like to give it a try. I wonder how much mustard flavor comes through.

I saw that one before but forget if I tried it. I don't have a rating on here so I may not have.

I think Oskar Blues gimmick was they were the "1st" "craft" to put beer "exclusively" in "cans" as other craft brewers had done cans before.

Just realized Todd already reviewed the beer. Lucky him! Sounds awesome, a bit savory like real mustard on top of a nice citrusy tropical wheat ale. I would love to have this with some bbq grilled hot dogs. If I see it around I'll pick some up.

Yuengling was canning their beer by the late 1930s (originally in "cone top" cans sealed with the same crown cap that bottles used) - they don't make the cut, tho', because they weren't "craft" until 2014, thanks to another redefinition of the term by the Brewers Association. (F X Matt, August Schell, Stevens Point and a number of other brewers now considered "craft" also canned before OB).

As for Boston Beer Co's Samuel Adams - canned beer was against their Beer Drinkers Bill of Rights.
There were a few "craft" beers that were canned before Oskar Blues bought their canning unit which were contract-brewed by old-line breweries (like those noted above).

Sounds like a lot of infusions to make sure that mustard taste is properly buried.

Today is National Lasagna Day, National Chicken Wing Day and National Lipstick Day. I’m heading to the beer store right now. I figure I’ll find at least one beer made with ingredients designed to cash in on the occasion. Fingers crossed.

A few years back I was bored and decided to take a bottle of Berliner Weisse and blend it with various things I found around my kitchen. Nothing typical like fruit, but more off the wall things like rib rub, etc. Most were pretty nasty, but I actually really enjoyed the mustard version. ISO!

I grew up near Rochester NY, where French's started. Sometimes, we'd drive by the plant, and, well, the aroma was just what one would expect.

I blame those experiences for my aversion to mustard.

And, nope, I'm not gonna tick this beer. I got some damn standards.
