    Can confirm.

Worst Case Scenario: Last time I was down in SoCal on business, I made the mistake of ordering a beer at Burbank Airport. I don't want to talk about it, but I can show you on this doll where the price of the beer hurt me.

Well, it's easy to be tough when the visiting beers aren't "better" than the local stuff, but also cost twice as much. If other breweries want to compete, they've got to be better on taste and price than the home teams.

I have to think the pricing is aimed at finding someone who has always wanted to try Hunahpu, and doesn't want to go thru the hassle of trading for it or flying to Florida to obtain a bottle.

I also thought it a good beer, but have no desire to re-experience the enjoyment of drinking it again at that price... And exactly for all the "opportunity cost" reasons you list. Even if I just compare it to other locally made impy stouts, I don't feel as if it's as good as coconut bbomb (for example), and yet it's nearly twice the price. Seen in that context, I just can't justify the price tag.

But I'm sure someone will buy it.

I just took my first visit to John's on Multnomah and I now see what everyone is talking about when it comes to quality and price in this part of our country. I was pretty overwhelmed by the selection of fresh (within 1 month of packaging) beer on the shelf, and trying to figure out how many beers to buy and bring home. I ended up paying $60 for 20 beers (almost all cans) to try- that Heater Allen and Von Ebert is some really good stuff btw. Can't wait to get all my glassware back this Saturday when the moving truck finally arrives...

It’s hard to describe without sounding like a crazy homer, but I believe it’s because the NW is maybe the most mature craft beer market. Low key amazing stuff, readily avaIlable and decently priced. I’d like to think other parts of the country will be closer to this in 5-10 years, but I also think there’s a regional cultural element other places won’t match; it’s integrated into social life for even more casual beer drinkers.

Johns is great, and its my usual spot because its so close to my house.

However, its just the tip of the iceberg. There is also amazing beers selections at high end grocery stores (Market of Choice, New Seasons, Zupans, World Market)

It's not even craft beer here anymore..its just beer. Which i believe there is little crazy hype over certain beers ;like back east.

I have a suspicion that things weren't going great before the Covid-19 and the current situation sealed the deal as they have a pretty good sized outdoor drinking area.

I think so..they came out of the gates too fast..cans, aluminum bottles ( which i reused)..now you rarely see any of their stuff in Salem at least.
Then they had an unfortunate incident with one of the owners and guns etc.

You really can't blame that they came out of the gates too fast with their canning. That was 8 years ago.

I do think they did lose a lot of business, and never recovered after the owner got drunk and was threatening to shoot homeless people.

Hair of the Dog now has an online store with curbside pickup only. There are a ton of gems there.
