Any fresh hops soon? I remember when I was down on the Oregon coast last summer I stumbled on some Level and Occidental FH cans at Bridge and Tunnel. I'll be vacation-quarantining in Lincoln Beach in a couple weeks and was wondering if I might get lucky again.

It'll be close. If memory serves, we started seeing FH stuff (mostly lagers initially) around the end of August last year. Not sure if the pandemic is going to have any affect on the harvest this year and/or how soon breweries can expect to get their allocations, but it wouldn't surprise me if it might.

I share your tepid appreciation for their beers - they're technically well-made, but do not bring me the joy that their neighbors' beers do. However, a smoked dunkelweiss that does not include bananas, marshmallows or campfire ash is something worthy of support in my book.

You, me, and @Lingenbrau were drinking the first fresh-hop release from Occidental in their taproom in mid-August last year.

I knew it was in August, but for some reason thought it was later in the month. I wouldn't mind it one little bit if we see their fh pils in another week or two.

Picked up an order at Hair of the Dog today. It was just Alan and his son (I think?) at a table at the roll up doors. Did some small talk with Alan while his son retrieved the order. He commented that he knew he’d been saving all these vintage bottles for something but didn’t expect it would be a pandemic. Also said he has a few things that need to be bottled, but because of distancing it’ll be a family affair. He made it sound like can sales have been good - not amazing but good - and mentioned he didn’t know if people would be ready for his strong ales in cans. I prefer bottles and so does he, but the market is what it is. Maybe we’ll see Adam and Fred in cans someday...?

There's a new batch of Party Time Pils from Wayfinder. This year, it's clocking in at 5.3% and $16/4 pack. It sounds like a different recipe with Bottleworks being the collaborator, as opposed to Feast PDX from last year. @vurt , @John_M , @jason_nwx and @derftron , FYI

Keep an eye out for some new Breakside cans hitting the market in about a week or two. Five Flavors, our collab with Upright, is a saison with the five flavor berry, also known as schisandra berry. This fruit brings complex flavors of sweet, salty, tart, bitter, and savory to complement the expressive yeast character. Draft and $15/16oz 4pk.

Whirligig Wheat is our collab with Pelican. A crisp and drinkable wheat beer made for summer, with the addition of Oregon grown rhubarb and cold conditioned on orange slices.
    Draft and $15/16oz 4pk.

Most exciting for me is our second version of Black is Beautiful, this time a blend of four different barrel aged beers in various spirits -
63% 18-month Oligarch imperial stout in Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels
19% 17-month golden raisin barleywine in House Spirits Rum barrels
6% 17-month golden raisin in barleywine in 2nd use Clear Creek Apple Brandy barrels
6% 16-month old ale in Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels
6% 7-month imperial schwarzbier in 2nd use California brandy barrels.

This is our first barrel aged beer to be canned and will only be available in cans, with all president proceeds benefiting the following charities: The Okra Project, Don't Shoot PDX, and the Black Resilience Fund. This will be a one time blend limited to ~275 cases, in house only. This was a project I was honored to lead and I'm super proud of the result and being able to contribute to these causes.
$36/16oz 4pk, singles available for $9. This pricing is so we can contribute the most money possible to the charities. Hope you all enjoy these beers!

I'm beyond excited for the Upright collab. Are they all going to see distribution at their usual spots?

I know you're busy and I don't want to presume when it comes to the frequent friendship you've displayed in this forum, but it would be greatly appreciated if you could possibly drop a post when the new BIB cans become available.

    Much obliged...

    Speaking of...

I'd happily split a 4pack, and pay for shipping, if someone is so inclined.

Would be happy to keep you in the know. It's being canned Friday, so I'm gonna guess Saturday, at least at Milwaukie. I'll update when I know for sure.

If one uses USPS flat rate boxes, it's 20 bucks to the Hamsterham island. Other islands might vary.

Black is Beautiful will be at all Breakside locations starting tomorrow! Canning is currently in progress and the beer is tasting amazing, I'm so happy with how it all turned out.

Good to know. Am thinking I can combine a trip to the Milwaukie farmers market with a trip to the brewery.
