Today is my 10th anniversary on BeerAdvocate. To celebrate this milestone, I considered opening some “special” beer I’ve been holding in my cellar. I have a bottle of 3 French Hens that dates back to 2010, for example, that might have been an appropriate choice. But then, I thought, what if it’s disappointing? Is that really how I want to commemorate a decade of exploring great beer with you fine people?

So I decided to go old school and crack one of my go-to, desert island beers that I never tire of. That list includes beers like Orval and Westmalle Tripel but, more than any other beer, Saison Dupont is responsible for my love of great beer and my conscious decision to dive deeper into this world. I’d been drinking beer for decades (and brewing some, too) before I tasted my first Saison Dupont, during a special meal at a very nice restaurant—and from that day forward I knew good beer was worthy of serious attention. I embarked on a journey of exploration, and taking that path naturally led me to join BeerAdvocate soon after.

So today I raise my glass to all of you, fellow BAs—here’s to many more wonderful years of discovery, community, and advocacy. Cheers!

Pale straw yellow body; very tiny carbonation bubbles gently rising; thick and frothy white head, sudsy. Fresh lemon and cut grass aroma; white pepper. Sea water with a touch of lemon in the taste; kind of spicy and herbal; fairly intense bitterness. Medium-light body; crisp; semi-dry; some citrus dryness.

Now here is an interesting twist on a lager. I don't claim to notice much presence of the oats, but the hops are front and center with this one. The hops bring on a dominant spice and herbal presence. The fairly light body with its gentle malt base makes for a great vehicle to deliver the hop flavors.

...the spoken interlude distracts from an otherwise nice studio live version of one of my (and @LarryV's) Fleetwood Mac tunes...

I stayed in Vancouver BC for some time in 2016. Fat Tug IPA from Driftwood definitely was my local favorite (they are from Victoria on Vancouver Island I believe). Awesome beer.

After years of it being out of my market, I am absolutely giddy to have Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor by Brouwerij Het Anker back on the shelves. 8% and just an incredible Belgian IPA.

Listening to Trace, by Son Volt. This album just never gets old. Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy have certainly made some great music after busting up Uncle Tupelo.

    Cheers.

There are a two more of these left from the four-pack purchased last month. I think I'll allow the remaining ones to mellow out for 6 months or so before I open them.

Interesting taker that I've never heard before, but it lacks the dreamy quality that I find so attractive in the original recording. If this was the first version of the tune I ever heard I probably wouldn't have liked it as much as I do. Cheers!
