It looks like Allegory Brewing in McMinnville have closed permanently.

I saw that note on BrewPublic, but their website says they closed their taproom for the season. They don't seem to have updated any social media in a couple weeks though.

I was wondering the same thing. There's nothing online about them going belly up, and I would have expected to see something in the local newspaper about that. Also, like you said, the commentary from the website seems to indicate the taproom just closed up for the season.

True, but their Facebook page says they're closed permanently. Not sure which is true.

I’m hoping the FB indicator is down to the limited amount of options for posting business hours during their normal seasonal closure. Would have expected some sort of goodbye post to accompany an actual permanent closure, fingers crossed for Charlie and crew.

It does, but I wonder if that might be a mistake (hoping that it is). If it's accurate, you would think there would be the usual farewell post, thanking everyone for years of business, good times, etc.

I emailed the Brewer and will update if/when he responds.

File this under WA beer news that is very Oregon relevant- Logsdon's Seizoen Bretta is in cans! I'm not sure about the price just yet, but I anticipate it's a better deal than bottles!

Closing for the season would actually make sense for them considering they are so Draftcentric in terms of sales.

I reached out to someone who would know what's going on to get an update.

So, saw an Instagram from John's the other day, showing bottles of RR blind pig and PtE. An employee there confirmed that a small shipment of bottles did indeed show up in pdx. Their allocation sold out the day it arrived, to no great surprise. She was unable to say whether or not this was a one time shipment, or if this will become a regular thing.

IMHO, this doesn't really come as a huge surprise, given their increased brewing capacity at the new Windsor facility. In any event, hopefully this is more than a one time event.

Here's part of a recent email from Belmont Station pertaining to PtE and Blind Pig bottles:

Please welcome back two of the most well-beloved beers in the world, Russian River’s Pliny the Elder & Blind Pig! It’s been almost six years since Portland has had bottles of these fantastic West coast style IPAs. They both will be available in limited quantities for curbside pickup starting at noon today.

We’ll be taking orders over the phone, and lines may get busy, so if you don’t get through the first time, be sure to ring us back. Please note - We will not be taking any orders through email or social media.

im kind of surprised there is still such a demand for these beers (although a pliny fresh from the bottle in my back yard sounds kind of nice). they have been pretty available on tap for years.

For every beer nerd who has nostalgia about these beers from their past experience, there are 5 more people who just recently became aware of RR and the myth surrounding Pliny, or who don’t drink a lot of draft beer and have never caught it on tap because driving out of one’s way for a particular tap isn’t a priority. I don’t really understand those 5 people, but I know they’re out there.

True, but I haven't seen Pliny in Portland since April or so. A bunch of places had it for growler fills early in lockdown but none since.

They are still astonishingly good IPAs. Especially if you're a person who's main experience has been with the juicy ipas

I sometimes wonder if people whose first 100 IPAs were juicy/hazy will be able to appreciate the reserved brilliance that's Pliny, or the aggressive backhanded hop slap across the teeth that Blind Pig is.

I agree, but even back in the day, when bottles and draft were both available in pdx, bottles seemed to fly out the door whenever they were available. I would rarely ever see them on the shelf. After a 6 year hiatus, I don't think it's any surprise there would be a lot of pent up demand for them.

I'm in Colorado right now, where we go regularly, usually Durango, to visit family. On the past three visits this year, I've seen Pliny in stores in either Durango or Summit County, and some Blind Pig as well. They also seem to be getting Supplication and a few other of the classic RR sours. I'm envious. I'd love it if those beers saw distribution in Seattle.

I get it that Pliny is not the rare whale that it once was. But it's still a damn good beer, and I will never pass up the chance to grab a bottle or two.
