totally disagree with the spicy thing -- palate overload IMO. i think IPAs only go well with pizza/burgers, and maybe some wings. id much prefer milds with spicy indian/thai food.

I usually pair my IPA's with at least one or two more IPA's and a nice nap!

Everyones palate is different to every varying extreme. You should not find your situation strange or different, it just is what it is. However The only real response I can have is to say sorry, because I very much enjoy my hops and food. To each their own. Just always have an open mind and continue to experiment with all styles, with care and understanding you are bound to find something that pleases your senses. Cheers and good luck.

I'm with you, OP. I love pairing food w/ beer, but when it comes to a great IPA or IIPA, I hate drinking it with food. Whatever the food is, it's normally going to mask or detract from the spicy hop flavor. Also, the bitterness of the beer pretty much destroys my enjoyment of the food. I love IPAs, but for these reasons, I drink them by themselves.

Pizza but it pairs with almost any beer. I'm not crazy about heavy smoke beers and pizza though.

Ipa's and sharp cheddar go together like lamb and tuna fish.

Just about anything goes with something dry and salty. Popcorn, pretzels, chips, (and yes Cheese-its).

I've never cared enough to get into the idea of paring food and beer beyond that. I'm drinking the beer for the beer.

Odell's Myrcenary with vanilla ice cream, there is just something about its flowery, grapefruity flavor that pairs well in my mind. Stone Ruination with Indian, Mexican, BBQ, or any spicy food. Odell's IPA with anything, especially a good ruben or when you don't want to pay more than twice the amount on a beer than the food your eating.

I agree. I generally do not like beer with any food. Exceptions are cheese and ice cream.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and state that your favorite foods are spicy and your favorite beers are hoppy. Could it be just that you enjoy them naturally and it's not really a pairing issue?

I posted a similar thread on the old BA. I've yet to find a food that I feel "pairs" with IPAs. That hasn't stopped me from ordering them but only because I like the beer. I generally end up washing the food down with water. Seems to be that way with me and many recommended beer pairings.

Yes and no. My favorite foods are spicy, and I love to enjoy them with an IPA, I guess because all the taste buds are engaged to the max--sweet, heat and bitter.

I'm gonna agree with all the bleu cheese and hot wings comments. The thing I found that goes perfect with IPA's is a salad with bleu cheese dressing and Snyder's of Hanover Hot Buffalo Wing Pretzel Pieces used for croutons. The vinegar and saltiness really compliment the IPA's bitterness and vice versa.

Beside spicy cuisine w/ IPA what are a few other of your favorite beer food pairings?

I also like lagers with spicy food. Amber ale or pale ale's with BBQ or steaks. I love Sam Adams Boston lager or ale with lobster and clams. I like to drink a stout or an English brown ale with oysters.

I'm with the "food doesn't go well with IPA" crowd. What I like best with a fresh IPA is another fresh IPA.
