    Better, but not good. I counted just over 150 countries doing better than the US in terms of deaths per capita.

    Some highlights of countries mentioned already in comparison:

    Japan = 1.79 deaths per 100k

    Germany = 22.9 deaths per 100k

    US = 86.29 deaths per 100k

    And one might be inclined to point towards the large volume of people and population density of the US.

    Well India’s deaths per 100k is 10.39. They have both a larger population and population density than the US. 1.353 billion people vs. 382 million and 328 people per square km vs. 36 people per square km respectively.

    Wow, I really think you are missing the point of those stats. Great, the USA's case to mortality rate is 1.9% but are you intentionally looking past the 86.71 DEATHS per 100K population?!

    Yup. Here's an example of why case to mortality rate isn't a great stat to use.

    Brunei is directly above the US on this list with a case:mortality rate of 2%. But they also have only 151 cases and 3 deaths total, for a deaths per capita of 0.70 per 100k. I'd much rather be Brunei right now than the US.

    Case:mortality rate is low for the US likely because of how many cases we have (one of the highest in the world, because we suck), and how much testing we do.

    Deaths are deaths.

    But hey, let's use this stat anyways and look at countries that have handled this pandemic well (Germany) and another that's MUCH bigger than the US regarding population size and density (India).

    Germany 1,200,006 19,434 1.6%

    India 9,703,770 140,958 1.5%

    Not only are their case:mortality rates better than the US, they only have 19k and 141k deaths respectively.

    I'd MUCH rather be them than the US, which is over 280k deaths and increasing at a rapid rate...

    Next argument in the Covid bingo which has repeated itself EVERYWHERE online, is that things are not really so bad because it's mostly old people who are dying.

    People who think the USA has done a good job with COVID remind me of football fans who say their team is really, really much better than their 7 - 9 record. You know how it goes: “We had the NFL’s toughest schedule!” “Did you see how the refs screwed us that time!?” If we got that field goal!” “If we didn’t lose our best corner in week 6!”

    Face it folks: we could have done better when it comes to dealing with COVID. It’s OK to admit it. You can still love ‘Merica and be upset about our COVID response at the same time. The two are not mutually exclusive.

    My parents came over to visit after months of not seeing them. They wouldn’t take their masks off while over. They have family friends who were sick one day, and died three days later. They are scared to death as she turns 70(me 40, as we have the same birthday) and he is 73. They are scared of missing seeing my daughter turn 6. Fuck what the numbers say. It’s real and it could kill them very easily. Especially for someone who has had lung issues and pneumonia. Also my little cousin who is 9 and just kicked cancer this year. Her father had to go into work to keep the IT functions moving so everyone could stay home and work remote. He contracted covid and literally quarantined in the basement and went in and out a window for weeks to not kill his daughter. Honestly, fuck the numbers and fuck the back and forth. It is real and it will take people you don’t want it to. If you want to argue this, I’ll gladly slap you around for ten minutes.

    Please do your part to help everyone and wear a f’ng mask. You look like a ***** when you argue against it. My 5 year old can wear it and doesn’t bitch. Which makes you look like a child when you don’t. Which is what Trump is. I sure as hell wouldn’t want to be that....

    To add some humor,

    Why did you make 2020 worse Jim and strip Fezziwig from its perfect harmonious marriage with holiday porter? You had a chance to make us smile.

    Still better than SRB

    It really is very easy to wear one. I’ve been wearing one 10-12 hours most days since this thing began due to work and how much I walk around outside.

    I actually forget I have one on most days at this point.

    It shouldn't go so far as needing a family member in the hospital for people to take this seriously. If you've only seen the heart ache and destruction this virus has caused, you would take the proper precautions and then some. I don't know what else to say. Wear a mask. Be good to others.

    Also, there are so many people making masks now. If you haven't found one that is comfortable for you, that's on you. Furthermore, I walk my dog multiple times a day in the cold and you know what, these masks have been a god send for protecting my face from the elements. I see myself wearing them in cold weather even after the population is vaccinated.

    Ha, yeah a silver lining regarding the cold is that I automatically wear a mask in the winter anyways because I have Carhartt ski masks that I would be wearing anyways while running and walking.

    F
    You don't have cold weather...:stuck_out_tongue:

    Seriously, yes, it actually feels good when it's really cold. I always cover my face if running or skiing when it's below about zero F, unless it's super calm and sunny. In my x-c ski racing days I once did a 2 hour session in minus 39F. I overdressed, and as sweat made its way away from my body it froze. Ended up looking and feeling like a knight in armor, and it took a good 15 minutes indoors before I could undress. Had a 6 inch icicle under my mask. No issues except a little temporary dehydration.

    I actually hope masks stick around after this shit is over. We would have a lot less colds and flu going around (and less food poisoning/stomach bugs if people keep washing their hands). If I have a cold 5 years from now and need to go to the store, I will wear a mask. That cold won't kill you but you probably don't want it.

    One negative: Wearing a mask 8-9 hours a day is messing up my palate. Everything tastes like mask until it's been off for an hour or two.
