Venn shouldn't be left off a list of better lager brewers in the area.

I need a local session beer. I like the strong craft beers, I just finished off a 7.2% Arrogant Bastard. You need to balance these things out or tomorrow will not like you. I try and drink local when I can.

Up in the Maple Grove area. I am here for 6 months. I could also use a good beer store. Too much wine up here. Beer kind of seems like an after thought.

Their Crowlers began to hit retail a few months back, a few brands at a time.

Agreed. Damn near half their tap list were lagers when I was there awhile ago. Refreshing to see.

@MichaelInMA along with Princeton's, check out the Brooklyn Park Hy-Vee. Great selection of singles, all in the cooler.

Not sure if Maple Grove Hy-Vee has a similar set-up.....?

Bad habit in St. Joeseph has brewed, and still had a few bottles of their The Admiral Nelson left when I was there yesterday. It is a barrel aged in rum barrels. 9.0% ABV.

I'll be reviewing it later today (12-12-2020)

Lift Bridge did a Baltic Porter collab with Goose Island that was barrel aged. I have seen some 12oz bottles still on shelves at local liquor stores.

I think that is how Bemidji terms their Double Porter but I don't think it is lagered...it is good.

What is it with Summit Brewing? They do not post the ABV on the bottle, can, or box. How can you drink responsibly if you do not know the alcohol content and better judge where you are at. They cannot be very good if they are trying to hide something.

I agree. That should be standard or required. We got so many dumb liquor laws in this state but don't have one requiring this. Par for the course.

I assume you have a smart phone. The Summit website lists ABV, IBU's & list of hops and malts used in all their beers. Also, the app Untappd lists ABV and IBU's.

Well, ya can’t always assume. But from reading his (?) profile it says he’s from Massachusetts.

It’s funny, but when I lived in Massachusetts (1999) there were a whole bunch of beer brands on the dry shelves and in the cold boxes which didn’t have the brand’s alcohol by volume listed on the label.

Were the breweries that brewed these brands any good? They must not have been, if they were trying to hide the ABV of their brands (and some of these brands were even in cans — talk about trying to hide something!)

Oh well, I drank the beers anyway, and learned (or decided) for myself whether the breweries were any good or not.

Oddly enough, nowadays we have cameras attached to supercomputers in our pockets, and can get almost every bit of information (and sometimes too much information) without any real effort.

For example, there’s a brand called “Dark Infusion” which is only available in Summit’s winter seasonal sampler pack, and I enjoyed it (or did I?) yesterday.

Yep, sure enough there’s no ABV on the can, but the ABV and more are available at the website, just a few keystrokes and clicks away on my supercomputer-camera-phone!

Kids today have it easier than they know.

Oh well, enough of my grinchiness...
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you beerknerds, dorks, and geeks.

I checked a few on the phone but gave up and bought something else. I know, I am lazy.
