    Doing something I’ve never done, a 3-way taste-off comparing beers of the same style. In this case English dark mild. It wasn’t that long ago that finding any dark mild was an accomplishment, so being able to do this is an advancement.
    From left to right (both photos):
    1 - Threes Backways
    2 - Grimm Seconds
    3 - Suarez Saunter.
    The Threes and Grimm beers had almost identical heads (1 finger), while Suarez lags significantly, possibly due to added lactose. Grimm is clearly the darkest as far as SRM goes, with the other 2 very close, the Threes being slightly darker and with a redder tint.
    All three have very mild aromas, with barely detectable roasted malt notes. Roasted malt flavor is most prominent in the Grimm and Suarez, the latter being a bit sweeter - again, perhaps due to the added lactose. That milk sugar also gives the Suarez a marginally smoother, more weighty mouthfeel. But the Grimm comes close through use of malt alone.
    Winner?
    Suarez - Gold
    Grimm - Silver
    Threes - Bronze
    But the margins are small and all are enjoyable. And I like that I can drink 3 pints and barely feel a buzz.

    I got one 16 oz can, so I could do a comparison to the bottles. This one is freshest by 4/29. Again, not terrible, but not at the level it previously ascended. If you like this beer, keep buying it every year. If you had it previous to Hershey, you understand what I mean. Much love.
