Is there really in difference between beer in a can versus in a bottle?

If bottles are available I will usually take them. Cans are lined with plastic which can leach undesirable chemicals into the beer. Cans are much more suitable for out of house the ventures, camping, social events etc..I also believe bottles taste a bit more fresh somehow, glass does not leach or contaminate. Clear and green glass are terrible for light contamination. A good old fashioned brown beer bottle will work just fine-

@jesskidden took the words out of my mouth. It's worth noting that when craft brewers experimented with canning their acidic beer, Ball's corrosion testing found can liners coming off. I wonder how/if those tests impacted can manufacturing or brewing practices.

I'll also add, if you are stuck on a deserted island with one beer, good luck getting your SOS message out in a can.

And you also wonder how forthcoming they would be in regards to how safe something is that makes up a significant chunk of their revenue. "Smoking is perfectly safe!"

Ah, but you can rip open a can, turn it inside out* and use it to reflect the sun into the cockpit of passing airplanes or the bridge of nearby ships!

*Heck, with the modern "sticker" can labels, you don't even have to do that. Just peel 'em off and rip the can to lay flat. Probably be able to use the label for something else (like patch that leaky life raft).

Excellent points by both of you. May I suggest a new thread, “Desert Island Beer”, but with the twist that it’s for survival purposes?
