    Personally it doesn't matter.
I'm not doing the fest or staying sober dry for January, but I lean toward 1/29,30,31

My consideration is that these are slow drinking, high ABV beers, many of which are only available as 750's, with flavors that don't necessarily play well with “extreme” styles. This could make many fest participants hesitant to also take part in the tasting.

Well, based on the limited feedback I've seen here, it seems like more people are finding conflict with Extreme Beer Fest weekend than dry January. In fact, I specifically recall seeing only one individual mention dry January being an issue for them.

Taking this into consideration, I'm thinking that it may be more practical to do this from the 29th of January through the 31st (I'm sorry, One Individual) to allow the most people to participate without EBF overlapping.

If most of are happy with that, then let's lock it down and proceed!

    I request a saison tasting!
I’d even be willing to host assuming...
    1. I’m given the ground rules
    2. It’s not on a weekend I work.
    Cheers.

To be fair there is a thread already dedicated to saison tasting

imo February would be good to do pastry stouts and dessert beers. Hence Valentine’s Day associated with chocolate n shit

So, this is a fantastic idea, however we just did a saison tasting in April of last year (which admittedly feels like last decade ...):
Its certainly one we can revisit in the near future, however there are a number of styles that have been request that we haven't gotten to just yet ...

Yea, so I was just scrolling back through the thread to see what some of the recent suggestions were, and this was one of them ... its also going to be my suggestion as well ... Love this style and would love to see it get a tasting thread. Obviously we can see what the majority of people seem to want, but I like this idea a lot.

I like all three proposed new style suggestions.

I'd vote for February Scotch/Wee Heavy; Quads in March and Imperial Stouts for the Fall when many are released (can have an open Imperial Stout tasting vs. the BCBS specific tasting next Thanksgiving).

Below is a list of the styles not attempted in the past. .
    • Altbier
    • Bitters
    • Blonde Ales
    • Brown Ales (Fall)
    • Dark Lagers
    • Fruit and Field (Summer)
    • Imperial Stouts (BCBS release the sole tasting in this category)
    • IPAs (American, Belgian, Black, English, Imperial and/or New England)
    • Kolsch (Summer/Fall - Oh hell yeah)
    • Lagers
    • Milk / Sweet Stouts
    • Non Alcohol (Perhaps a good "dry" January 2022 tasting opportunity)
    • Oatmeal Stouts
    • Pale Ales
    • Porters
    • Quadruples (Winter/Spring)
    • Red Ales
    • Rye (Fall/Winter - Perhaps allow Rye wines as well)
    • Scotch Ales (Fall/Winter)
    • Smoked
    • Sours (Spring/Summer)
    • Stouts - American/English (Non Imperial)
    • Strong Ales (Fall/Winter)
    • Tripel (Perhaps combine with Quad tasting?)
    • Wheat Beers (Perhaps allow wheat wines as well)
    • Wild Ales
    • Other considerations could include individual beers
    • BA Top Rated Beers (Top 250, Trending Beers, Top 250 New Beers, Beer Hall of Fame, Popular Beers)

    How about smoked beers?

I also like the idea of Wee Heavies. I have a couple that need opening.

My vote is for wild ales sometime soon, because I have 38 Side Project bottles and an itch to open them. Also because I wasn't allowed to host wild ales. Also because I just love wild ales. But you were all so fantastic during Barleywine Weekend, I want to see what you guys vote on!

Also also, that Maple In the Wood did me in, and I wasn't able to finish typing my final total stats before @FBarber locked me out (Gee...THANKS! jk) so once again, thank you all for participating. I had a blast watching you all open those amazing beers, and I appreciate you all allowing me to lead us through through it. So much fun! Thank you all for joining!

...but my vote is wild ales

I'll go along with the consensus, but Scotch Ales seem way too similar to what we just did to me.

Seems like right now there are a lot of dark lagers out there at least here in the mid Atlantic, so might as well taste them while they're around. But let's be honest they're all good choices

I vote for dark lager. I couldn’t participate in barley wine because I had zero access to any of them. I’m not traveling for this. Plus it’s the opposite ABV end of things compared to barley wine

I'm good with moving more toward lighter ABV this time, but I think just saying dark lager is too broad. On this site, that covers everything from rauchbier to Oktoberfest (which in the case of Aecht Schlenkerla isn't that far, I know); but there are 7 styles grouped under dark lager.

But, as @TongoRad says, I'll go with the consensus. Or even with the final dictatorial edict! :sunglasses:

(I do have a few Scotch Ales / Wee Heavies cellaring I could open, though ...)
