:joy::joy: I love that middle one where they just settled on "dark beer"

The dead center they just gave up completely and went with " beer brewed in Scotland ". Seems like they're having a hard time gauging what customers want them to call their beer

Yeah, it always seemed like they just didn't want to pin it down, but some inconsistencies could be due to importers rather than it being just an internal issue. An importer might put a different designation on a beer than the brewer with the thinking that it's a better fit for their market. That's why I specifically included importers in the snippet above... and also why I specifically mentioned what the brewery is calling it. In this particular case, I couldn't tell you if all of those labels reflect the brewer's marketing of the product, but they might.

All this talk is building up the anticipation for @FBarber 's future post on trying the beer.

It tastes like beer ... maybe an Ale, but mostly just beer. But ya know, dark beer.

You should cancel the porter tasting thread. That sums it all up. You just saved people a lot of time and money on porters.

But porters are such a great value typically you're really losing money NOT buying them!

I’ll take “Things that beer geeks say to their spouses” for $200.

No conflict with Orval Day is all I ask for :slight_smile:

Not that I'm above blending a nice ripe Orval with a porter either...

Brett in a porter/stout is still one of those old beer secrets that has yet to be tapped into these days. It's too bad too, considering all of the brewers making wild ales lately, because it's a marriage made in heaven.

Slightly sour porters ... hmmm, might need to need to pull my last bottle of Obadiah Poundage out of the cellar ...

That was a damn fine beer! It must be amazing with even more age on it.

Thanks again for the opportunity to taste it last year!

We're in lockdown up here so no going shopping for porters. Can I pull one out of my cellar? I might even have an Old Engine Oil in there if I could find it.

I think I need an '11 Orval to do an '09-'15 vertical.

New kicking around this forum, I'll definitely need to be brought up to speed on the ground rules.

You can absolutely pull something from the cellar! Just so long as its a porter (but not a Baltic Porter) you're good to include it in the tasting.

Orval on each side, porter on the other?

No edit button for your own posts on this forum? Not helpful.

Anyway going through my cellar file I found 3 porters that weren't Baltics.

    2012 Gaspésienne from Pit Caribou
2013 Black Ball Porter from To OI
2019 Imperial Porter from Collective Arts.

That's all I have to choose from.

The option to edit one's posts only lasts for 15 minutes or something similar.

I find that very strange, all of the other forums I hang out on, (motorcycle), have it. Certainly can be a handy option to keep clutter down in threads.

The Orval tasting looks fun but I might be in conflict with the missus birthday.
