Humans being haven’t changes since day 1, we are what we are and it’s quite predictable.

What it should be and what it actually produces are two very different things.

I’d like to think I’m open minded, but everything is still open to individual interpretation. And most of the comments reflect back to existing comments and not back to the article.

No, hateful speech needs to be scrubbed. The point here isn't to create some kind of space where everybody feels like they can say what they think on a topic; that's not what's going on. The point is creating a more inclusive space providing a bit of information and context.

You're not wrong. Humans have always gotten ahead of each other through domination of each other. Slavery is still alive and well as is feudalism. It's a different context to be sure. The same people here (and everywhere) who are arguing for equal rights are doing so on electronics made in a country who are currently the most infamous for civil rights oppression. That's the hypocrisy of it all isn't it? I do feel it's terribly myopic to define ourselves merely on our sexual preferences. I have family members who are gay and transgender who fall into both camps. One is very aggressively in people's faces with his decision to live as a man, the other, while having been out of the closet for decades now, defines himself by more than just being queer. We let society direct us into these camps or tribes, and it's embarrassing. Full disclosure, im a card carrying Democrat, have been known to punch ****s, and have been called xenophobic by leftist on this site for arguing against China and communism before. I bring this up because it all ties together in the human condition of crushing each other underfoot to get ahead or merely stay comfortable.
Lastly, I'll be supporting these breweries as I see em. They arent pushing a lgbtq+ nationalist agenda, or asking for anything more than equal rights. I would like to see some kink/fetish beers show up to support my brethren tho.

A handful of posts had to go (immature trolling to hate speech), as did two (barely active) users for crossing way over the line.

My inbox is a different story. I'm closing in on 200 email replies to the newsletter from people trying to school me on why none of this matters, accusing me of being brainwashed/a sellout, naming calling, to wishing death upon me and others, etc. Nothing that I haven't seen before, but it's still incredibly disappointing to witness.

Hateful speech imo would negate any part of the guys opinion and imo render it meaningless. It’s just hate, so I’d ignore it, we’re big boys and girls here, we all know it exists in every direction on a daily basis. Offering up this article kinda lends itself to some stretching of the General rules as it’s meant to inform and it most certainly will drive strong reactions. That’s part of the point.

Gotta hate that as well as probably expect it, but at least you know the assholes your dealing with. Nothing worse than hiding behind anonymity, that I can’t respect, if you say it at least have the balls to own it.

Sorry to hear that, can't say I'm surprised though. I'm a middle-aged man with short hair who lives and works retail in a conservative part of the country. The amount of casual bigotry customers share with me because they assume we are like-minded is depressing.

Now we have to be mature about our trolling.
    Bunch a bullshit Todd.

But keep your chin up and don't back down from controversial topics. Advocating is our second nature. It's not pretty but neither is silence.
    Cheers

I'm not gonna further clog your inbox, but for what it's worth, some (many?) of us do really appreciate your willingness to post articles and have important conversations like this. Those 200 emails sadly prove how necessary it is. Thanks for taking that for the team!

What I find fascinating about this topic is how central bars/nightclubs have been to the whole queer social movement. Its kind of surprising, given the centrality of those establishments to the history of the social movement for queer rights, that there aren't more alcohol brands endemic to the queer community. Especially considering that gay men are among the most economically successful demographics in the country.

I live in an area with a very visible and open queer community, there are a number of openly queer business owners but not any explicitly queer bars that I am aware of.

As far as overtly lgbtqia2+ branding, I find the whole flamboyant pride aesthetic pretty tacky. That of course means its a perfect fit for the modern beer shelf. The few flamboyant queer friends I've had assure me that my problem is a depressing lack of style so I suppose I've got to admit that the discussion becomes a.matter of he said/they said....

Yo Todd, we appreciate the community you’ve created here for us, and the fact that you’re trying to make it more inclusive is great. Good on you for not backing down when faced with bigotry from some rude members on here

@unlikelyspiderperson - your problem is a depressing lack of style-that sounds exactly like something a gay guy would say to a straight guy. I got a laugh out of that one.

Dale, we don't generally comment publicly on moderation, but I think if you peruse the thread, you can see that contrary opinions are here. It's not one-sided. What won't be allowed is hate speech, by anyone, regardless of what "side" they espouse.

From what I’ve seen the main advertising thrust of the massive corporate brew machines has been
“If you’re not drink an ice cold big brewery A&B company beer then you’re probably a bit effeminate or fruity” in my humblest of opinions

I think beer has by it’s nature an inclusiveness by it’s very nature due to it’s widespread appeal & affordability, even in it’s upper echelons (compare the price of a world class beer with that of a world class wine) & I think it could be a fantastic element to bring down a lot of social barriers.

Though perhaps we should address the idea of us being pious snobs first lol

Is this similar to our ex president's comment that "there were good people on both sides"? Those jackasses that marched on the lawn at UVA chanting "Jews will not replace us" are not good people in any way and defiled a place that many of us love and revere. UVA was the Harvard of the south and educated especially smart kids from far and wide. I have relatives, Confederate doctors trained at UVA in the early 1800s that are commemorated on The Rotunda. They were from south Alabama. The Confederacy was a bad and doomed cause that should instruct us, not incite us.....
