Good morning team Bock, starting today with this treat.
With the BB date being 09/21 I assume its relatively young,
Nothing off about it at all, lovely texture and flavors, avoids the sweet side quite well.
    Cheers

Poured from an 11.2 oz bottle with a best by date of 09/21 into the test mug.
A - Tawny, copper color, a touch of haze. Beautiful carbonation, tiny steady accumulates in a dense off white cap.
S - Sweet malt, some yellow raisan, a bit of brown sugar. A bit of fruity ester, and clove.
T - Those sweet dark fruits are up front, then a nice steady, dark bread, with a bit of fig spread.
M - Lite in body, carbonation is quick to clean up, excellent tight band on the palate. Lovely dry finish. Never strays.
O - A very good "Double-Bock" thier label. With all the requiste flavors, and a lighter body than many.

I am curious if @JackHorzempa had old bottles as well. As with all things Ayinger fresh bottles can be difficult to aquire...

A new to me beer this morning, and thread worthy - Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier - Urbock:

Poured at 55° into my Kozel mug; two fingers of fluffy, rocky mixed bubbles, dark beige head; dark brown almost black color; long cap retention; heavy ring, medium lacing. Smokey, burnt bacon nose. Taste is roasted “burnt ends” from Franklins’ barbecue; roasted malt; toasted brown bread; some sweet malt in background. Medium full body; moderate minus carbonation; no warmth from 6.5% abv; somewhat smooth feeling. Overall, the smoke is mild and the taste/aftertaste is more toast with slight char. Not for me...I could not finish the glass...scored to style.

I eschewed buying that series last week at the local Bunny's. I didn't check the release date, other than noting it's long best-by date, which I think was also 2035.
I couldn't get past the cartoonish name, and, combined with the extreme abv, and although appropriate, extreme survivability, flight won over fight.
Maybe I will reconsider. Thank you for your valor.

Just wait until the phone book drops on your doorstep next month.

@FBarber - Would have stopped into Grand Central if they were open before the last Goose Island Block Party, will definitely hit them. Really enjoyed your side by side, somewhat surprised the Dovetail was lacking. The Goldfinger Maibock sold out very quickly at the store by me. Will keep an eye out for this in the future.

On to the review. This is the first of two planned for today, somewhat local as this is brewed in SW suburban Darian.

Miskatonic Brewing Company's Hallo, Mein Name Ist Weizenbock

Full review in the New Beer Sunday thread. This is my first foray into Weizenbocks, and I am enjoying this beer as I type. Full bold flavor, pumpernickle, raisins, plums, cinnamon, banana, clove, grassy. Aroma and taste bold and wonderful. Creamy medium creamy body, sweet but not to sweet. Based on the style notes here, brewed consistent with style. Glad I came across this fresh.

Have a final bock planned for the afternoon from a Chicago brewer.

    Prost!

Also... seems like @zid is trying very hard to win this WITHOUT posting an official review. He opened WBAYDN now with a very nice photo of a popular bock this morning AND made a veiled argument that it should qualify for a Maibock/Single Bock bonus.

When you review over 2500 some times you forget what you have already reviewed. I picked up some Ayinger Weizenbock and when I looked it up I noticed that I rated it a 4.39. I still greatly enjoy this beer, definitely on the sweet side compared to other wiezenbocks I have enjoyed. I feel this goes more to a weizen with its very pleasant yeasty bananas and cloves that work wonderfully with a touch of earthy spice and some caramel that all come together with apple and pear flavors.

    Cheers All

A - Caramel, color, an ever so slight cream colored cap supported by gently rising
    carbonation.
S - A hint of smoked malt, wonderful caramel notes and a kiss of dark fruit.
Light brown sugar, and a touch of winter spice.
T - Malt forward and remarkably clean. Nothing to sweet here, the light hop hints
are buried in the back. The finish is wonderfully dry.
F - A delight, starts to coat the palate, then quickly runs for the exit, leaving on a
glass slipper of caramel to track it down with the next sip.
O - A real treat, the nose, body and finish show amazing restraint and balance.

I am not subtle. (and the beer certainly qualifies )
Eiche, their Doppelbock, differs from their Bock in that it's a proper 18.9% original gravity (that and the oak wood).
I really want to win that car.

I'm not even kidding about this part - The nightmare I had last night is partially responsible. It made me wake up extremely early (I never even considered starting the thread until that moment.) Maybe I can blame the nightmare on doing a side-by-side with various Aventinus just before going to bed.

    More bock a rolling!

    Time for a revisit.

Not much new to say, this bottle might also be a bit older as it seems like some of the heat is starting to overpower the base malts and flavors, making it slightly thin. Still much to enjoy not unlike the last time I had it, maybe not as crazy excited as I once was about it.

    Cheers!

I’ve rated three dopplebocks (Pipeworks Goat Collector and Ayanger Celebrator being the other two), and Samichlaus rated the highest. It’s been a staple in the Schrei household since before I even got into craft beer (I’m thinking we had a 2007 or 2008), and it’s probably my wife’s favorite beer. We had about three dozen of different vintages at one time, but right now we only have a dozen or so 2016s. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find new vintages in years, so if anybody has a source or wishes to trade, please DM me. Mrs Schrei thanks you in advance!

I’ve never really given this one a proper review. I would say it’s mahogany in color, transparent with a healthy amount of head and lacing. Smell is notes of caramel, molasses, and dark fruits. Taste can best be summed up in two words: sweet and boozy. Brown sugar, caramel, and raisin flavors are up front, with a mild alcohol burn in the background, to the point I’d almost swear it was barrel aged. A big, thick, bold, slightly syrupy, full bodied beer with a definite alcohol presence. Excellent as it warms, flavorful, a great sipper, and an all around excellent beer. I used to think three or four years was the best age to have this one at, but I’m starting to think my initial assessment that it starts falling off after then was wrong, as at five years, this is damn tasty. I gave this one a 4.5 back when I rated it in December 2014, but I may even rate it higher now.

Any reason to drink this beer is good to me, so thanks to the organizers of this event for the excuse!

All right, time to start off the day with another German brew, a doppelbock from Augustiner-Bräu called Maximator. The beer pours clear, with a medium brown hue to it. The head is not doing anything impressive.

Nose of toast with some burnt edges. The alcohol sits at a respectable but not overwhelming 7.5%, but somehow comes through a little bit in the nose. There are also some fruit notes of raisin, date, and grape.

Toasted bread with a little grape jam and some brown sugar. Initially, the malt on this beer didn't seem as interesting as some others I have had this weekend. However, there is a little pumpernickel in the linger that works itself forward to counter that initial assessment. It's still a little on the sweet side, but it doesn't get sticky like sweeter beers can.

So, I think this fits in the middle of the pack of (mostly doppel) bocks I've had so far this weekend. Still got a couple more to try to get to today.
