I accept the fact that the larger cans use less aluminum per ounce of beer, but as a guy who just drinks "one beer" a week, I would certainly prefer two 8 ounce cans of different styles.

I loved those when I visited Japan. Perfect for a couple of gulps while walking down the street in the summer.

My 42 year old son sent me a photo of an 80's kids' soccer practice, with a coach holding a 12 oz Bud can. I told him that I would have been more discreet. I would have bottled my dark homebrew in Cornell Sarsparilla bottles.

We have a restaurant near us that serves most of its draft beers in lab beakers. I worked in a lab environment, and the rule was to NEVER put beverages into a chemical beaker (for good reason). I ask for a real glass.

Those sound horrible to have to put through your canning line. Twist rinser nightmare.

Go small but not too small. Stop at 12 oz!

Or more exactly: 11.2 oz. You don't want to go below a third of a liter. Soon there is not anything left to drink, just some aluminium.

All pricing aside, I really like the size of the 16 oz cans. That's just about right in my mind.

But my wife, she would really like this. She likes the small cans of pop, that are probably the same size.

Of course. It's what happened with the European 11.2s. As it is with the price of 4 pack "craft" pints.

Well, there's just a little difference between .8 and 3.5 ounces -- I don't get so choosey over .8.

I agree. Those 'heavy-hitters' can be a struggle like our IPAFEST where I struggled to get them drank on Saturday night. Saved Edgar's beer for later. Glad I did because I really enjoyed the Hop Boss. I had help Friday night. I too would prefer a 12 ounce container, glass or aluminum. Cheers!

In the 60s, my Aunt operated a liquor store in Washington. She brought my grandparents short 8 oz cans of Country Club malt liquor. . . .

8.5 fl. oz.? Frankly, no. It'll be a wonderful excuse for breweries to have you pay more for less.

Having lived in Europe, I'm of the opinion that we need to actually make the standard serving size for regular-strength beer (~5% ABV) a pint or half-liter. I feel like American consumers are getting ripped off losing 4 to 7 ounces on beer.

Another solution would be to simply increase the case sizes to compensate for those lost ounces:

With packs like that actual beer mules might come in handy.
