[IMG] Tonight's Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup: (Only 1 pair of the 3 were correctly identified blind)

    1) Modelo Especial (4.4%): A dry Mexican lager with flavors of pale malts, bread malts, and light honey. Malty and smooth.
    versus
    2) Guinness Harp Lager (4.5%): An Irish lager with flavors of pale malts, yeast, and potato. Lots of yeast to finish dry.

    3) Bahaus Lounge Wizard (5.2%): This Pale Ale from Minnesota has mild but resinous flavors of tropical orange, guava, pineapple, and melon.
    versus
    4) Bells Juicy Gossip (4.7%): This Pale Ale from Michigan drinks with zesty citrus notes of lemon, grapefruit, and flower. Some definite tropical peach notes too.
    (Mismatched these two beers blind)

    5) Surly’s Rivet Head IPA (6.9%): This west-coast style IPA from Minnesota has flavors of resinous grapefruit, dank citrus, and pine flavors. Leans with more resinous fruit and sweeter.
    versus
    6) Surly’s Havoc Machine IPA (7.5%): Another West-coast style IPA from Surly brewed with Cascade, Chinook, and Amarillo hops has mild aromas & flavors of grapefruit, lemon citrus with hints of herbal and a strong, bitter pine finish.
    (Mismatched these two beers blind)

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Winners:

    1) Modelo Especial:
I might have rated this different in the winter, but in the summer I think Modelo is a smoother and more drinkable beer. Less yeast and more malt smoothness. A warmer weather beer.

    4) Bells Juicy Gossip: This one was much lighter and zestier with citrus than I expected. Clean and easy drinking, but suits well for the hot summer day today and would be a perfect
    poolside beer.

    5) Surly's Rivet Head: Two west-coast IPAs from a Midwest brewery, but then very different. Both were bitter, but this one was juicier and more flavorful with nice resinous and juicy flavors, which gives it the win. Havoc Machine wasn't bad, but quite devoid on the flavor.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Humbling to only get 1 out of the 3 blind pairings correct tonight...
Have you tried Modelo Especial or Harp Lager and which did you prefer?
Have you tried Bells Juicy Gossip and what did you think?
Have you tried either of the Surly IPAs, Rivet Head or Havoc Machine and what did you think?

I’m always curious about distribution. Did you get that in trade? If not, where did you buy it? I like Masthead but I’m wondering how I’m seeing beers around the country. Someone (Hunter?) posted a citra beer that was brewery only here and yet he got it in Oregon.

Day off went to goodwill, binnys, trader joes, and portillos. Time to chill I guess. First day of a tolerance break i've been pretty much stoned since I came back from vacation. Surprised I had an appetite for portillos. Grabbed this tv with a 1920x1080 resolution for $8. Not too bad. 6 days till my vacation time comes back. Should I go to Louisville when Metallica and Priest are playing on the same day? Should I see priest in rosemont or milwaukee? Or both?

Enjoying a Particle Physics from Equilibrium Brewery in Middletown, NY. Look at that head, on a subtle, but fruity American Pale Ale. Perfect during the heat we have had lately in the metro New York City:

This TIPA collab with J Wakefield and Narrow Gauge should come with a “Double Shock Power!!!” sticker on the can. IJS. Absolutely love it.
