[IMG] Tonight's Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup: (2 of the 3 pairs correctly matched in the blind head-to-head)

    1) Ballast Point Longfin Lager (4.5%):
A German Helles-style lager from Southern California that has smooth flavors of honey, lemonflower, with mild Munich malts. Balanced.
    versus
    2) Surly’s Hell Lager (5.0%): A zwickel-style beer from Minnesota with strong lemon citrus, lemonflower and yeasty flavors with light lemon notes. A yeasty, dry finish.

    3) Sam Adams Summer Ale (5.8%): A citrus wheat ale from Boston that has flavors of tangerine and lemon citrus, wheat, with a bread spice from the African Grains of Paradise used in this beer that gives it a unique mint and spice quality.
    versus
    4) Stone Dayfall (5.5%): This Belgian wheat from California has orange peel, orange, and bergamot spices. Lots of orange and bergamot here.

    5) Surly’s Impossible Objects (7.0%): A DDH hazy IPA from Minnesota that has dank orange and tropical flavors. Resinous.
    versus
    6) Insight Brewing Hop Drop Double Dry Hopped New England IPA (6.5%): A DDH hazy IPA from Minnesota that has strong flavors of juicy orange and pineapple. A strong body. Some orange plastic flavors.
    (misidentified these two blind)

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Winners;

    1) Surly's Hell Lager:
This zwickel-style beer is always a favorite. Nice lemon wheat, and lemon flower flavors. Longfin Lager wasn't bad either.

    3) Sam Adams Summer Ale: This beer has a unique blend of citrus, spices, and grains. Hits just right for the summer and may be one of my favorite summer ales. Dayfall is also a good beer but more intense. Not as drinkable for the summer.

    6) Insight Brewing Hop Drop Double Dry Hopped New England IPA: Well at least they could have come up with a better name for this one. Surprisingly a good NEIPA though. Intensely juicy with a big body for the ABV.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you like Ballast Point Longfin or Surly Hell?
Have you tried Sam Adams Summer Ale this year and what did you think?
Unlikely, but have you tried Insight Brewing Hop Drop beers and what did you think?

Ok, so given that the music and beer is flowing, I feel I was remiss in having a classic CO beer and not posting a (for me) classic CO band. So listening to them now…

in my experience at a handful of their live performances, they generally stick to the produced song, but I quite often like the produced song, so… here’s a[nother] CO beer

I may be descending into drunkenhappiness, although the eight ball says the future is cloudy.

Side note on the cat front: there’s a general discord in the house with cats hissing as they grow hungry.

JJJuiceee Machine from Tree House. I remember when they did a silent drop of OG Juice Machine in Monson. I waited in line for an hour, and I had a mule. Thankful. Peace...

Out and about, using the Father's Day gift card from the in-laws. Cerveza de Barco, billed as a Mexican style lager. It's not a refreshingly light and grainy lager (with or without lime), and it's not a rich Vienna style, so I'm struggling to find where the inspiration came from to call this one "Mexican style". I guess it's Vienna-adjacent.

Hoppin' Frog Brewing Co. -- D.O.R.I.S. the Destoyer - Extended Barrel-Aged (imperial Russian stout)

    4.35/5 rDev +3.1%
    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

Black body; light brown head, initially thick and foamy then soon diminishes to a thin, creamy head. Excellent aroma; boozy chocolate, raisin, and tobacco; plum; oak. Dark, rich taste; boozy cocoa; figs and raisin; well-rounded bitterness peeking through the heavy sweetness. Heavy body; sludgy and velvety; bold alcohol warmth cuts through the residual sugar sweetness.

Based on my memory of other D.O.R.I.S. iterations, this one certainly has a smooth aged factor going for it. There is a rustic, earthy quality to this powerhouse. The aging delivers a fine, smooth and chewy Russian imperial stout.

Served at 63° F; unreadable canning date on the bottom of the can other than 2021.

Hill Farmstead Edward through the courtesy of @colby600 . . .

Medium yellow gold color that is hazy enough that I cannot see my fingers on the other side of the glass yet the appearance is very clean all through. Beautiful fine white cap and lace.

Aroma of citrus zest (not orange or lemon but definitely citrus) with a touch of pine and sharp herbs all presented with a sharp vibrancy.

Taste is hop forward with citrus in the fore and the herbal qualities trailing. Malt presence is subdued, I get more a sense of malt than an actual malt flavor.

Medium velvety texture with balancing carbonation.

Altogether it's a noteworthy brew whose acquaintance is memorable.

so...I'm less than pleased.. Was looking forward to this beer but the taste was less outstanding than I remembered and sure enough, the canned on date was February and best by date was third week in June but I bought it two days ago. Tough lesson to learn about not reading all the canning date, but I got complacent because the store generally only has stuff less than 6 weeks old. At least I only got a single can. Reminds me of this song...(Sh)it happens.
