Well, the last guy that seemed certain about this told me the opposite.

If you notice the description of cherry, its exactly what's written on the label of cherry rye bottles. Got one right in front of me.

Good to know. I guess I'd like a definitive answer from someone with actual knowledge on this.

I hope you're right, knowing I've already tried it makes me less frantic to find it, especially since I too thought the cherry was pretty subtle, as Jagen mentioned. Still a great beer, but I don't think I'd hunt it any harder than regular BCBS. I do look forward to seeing how it tastes in a year since that seemed to do wonders for Bramble (though I never had the pleasure of trying that one fresh...loved it this past summer though).

Anyone here a media person that writes about beer? You might be in luck if you're still looking for Cherry Rye. Goose has been sending out some bottles to the media! For free!

I'm actually a little peeved that they used bottles of Cherry Rye in this manner. Probably not more than a case, I know, and what's the difference if one group of 12 people get a bottle (media) versus another group (consumers). And yet... having said that...

I'd expect nothing less than this, actually. And given the sheer amount of Rare, Vanilla, and King Henry brought forth for the Black Friday tasting, I'm guessing that GI has a few bottles and kegs stashed away for other special events, both public (like Black Friday) and private (like the beer dinners in the barrel warehouse).

I'd expect GI to hold back units for the media. I don't understand being peeved over good business practice.

In the single tasting event where I've had the pleasure of sampling multiple varients. We finished with a 07-12 vertical of bcbs. The order of drinking these would likely have affected my rankings, along with other factors, but here's my .02:
    Rare>2012 Coffee>Vanilla=Cherry=Regular
I'd like to run this experiment a few dozen more times to see how the rankings change. I'd also really like to be able to partake in a bramble. Something tells me I'm not alone on those sentiments!

there must have been a second delivery of coffee - ran into it twice in chicago the last two days (Binnys in lincoln park, but i reckon it's gone - and, lush on roscoe today - they had 6-7 bottles for $22ish.)

    no cherry

Got Coffee in Algonquin today 12/15 Sat. 2 for $18.99 ea. Very fair price. Also picked up 2 Avery Samuel's @ $6.99 ea. a steal at that price, and an awesome beer, I would rate it as highly as bcbs.

On the subject of Cherry Rye BCBS, I have an extra to trade, but that is a different thread.....

I missed out on a raffle for the Cherry Rye, but I did manage to snag a Coffee a couple weeks ago. I still really want to find the Cherry Rye though. I'm too new to post there, but as soon as I can I may have to post my remaining bottle of Rare up for trade. Maybe I could score a Firestone Walker XVI too, since my usual places sold out before I knew it was in.

after having it at GI black friday, imo cherry isn't worth its completely nutty trade value. if i wound up with one, i'd trade it immediately.

Same here. Enjoyed it at GI but I prefer Coffee. Would like to snag one but not at its ridiculous inflation value right now. Its no where near Vanilla or Rare (however, Rare is starting to fall off a bit, but still).

Just wanted to chime in with a selling practice of Cherry Rye that I would love to see adopted in larger form by some larger bottle shops that currently dominate a lot of the beer releases in the Chicago area.

In St. Louis, the Wine & Cheese Shop is selling their lone case of Cherry Rye without announcing anything publicly, and placing one bottle of Cherry Rye on the shelf at a random time each day until the case is gone. I think this is a fantastic idea. This practice leaves who gets the bottles nearly entirely to chance, and doesn't give the air of having to be in the right place for that one brief window of 5 minutes/winning a lottery/being on the "special list"/having to leave work in the middle of the day to run and get your bottle/brick/whatever before the bottles sell through immediately.

For an example as to how this works in practice, the first bottle of the case was put out on the shelf and lasted 22 minutes before it was purchased.

There's now a line of FIBS at the Wine & Cheese Shop demanding their Cherry Rye.
