    Celebration for sure.

also will follow the recommendation on another thread and offer a beer cocktail with Yuengling Hershey's and a pumpkin beer. might go ST Pumking nitro to bump up the body.

always a pre-meal saison for my sister; this time Suarez Local Boy.

and after the crowd has dissipated, BA Spice Cake with late night second dessert. too good to share with more than a few.

You can still bring beer in a carry on. You can bring anything that isn’t hazmat (140 proof+) in a carry on.

I'm sort of new to the beer scene. I'd like to try a sour, and Thanksgiving seem like a great opportunity. Do you have some recommendations? Thanks

I'm bringing a six pack of Three Floyds Alpha Klaus (and am going to be a beerdick about who gets to drink them).
And I'm thinking a Vanberg & Dewulf LambickX Kriek, too.

I'd go with Jester King Le Petit Prince. Or a grisette. YMMV.
    I wish I'd said this.

Absolutely, you can participate, and we would love for you to. It is an “online tasting” that we do here on BA. I will be posting the thread later tonight (we will kick it off starting Wednesday, actually), and for 5 days we are encouring people to open anything under the Bourbon County label, and share your thoughts. It’s also great when you read all the reviews and interact with others. (I know that came off a bit like I’m a turd, and that’s not the intention. I’m just saying that part of what makes this so fun is getting to interact with each other and ask questions and comment and so on. If it was just about a review, and a review only, we could all just individually read reviews on the website. What also makes this so great is interacting with other BAs that you see around consistently, and getting to know their palate, and whether it lines up with yours. You can then keep an eye out for what they think is good, and try to track down other beers. -Or, make recommendations.)

Welcome to the BA site, and to the wonderful world of good beer. Hang around and explore the site as much as you can and you'll learn a lot.

If you've never tried a sour beer, here's my version of a primer to get you started. Check out the style description page https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/styles/ and scroll down to the Wild/Sour section at the bottom. Read the descriptions of each style to get an idea of the terms that define the tastes found in these beers.

Two major types of sours exist - those that are what is called Kettle Soured, and those that are soured by adding certain yeasts or 'bugs' to the beer and then usually aging them in barrels while the souring occurs.

Kettle Sours are brewed by many breweries as just another beer style on their beer menu. I think they tend to be local/regional because I can't thing of an example right now to recommend to you that you might find in Massachusetts. Pick a favorite brewery and look at their page here in the Places section and see what they might have. Read some reviews of the beers to see what descriptors are mentioned of the taste. Choose something that sounds good.

Some barrel-aged sours can be found nationally, and three breweries that should be easy to find for you are Jolly Pumpkin, Goose Island, and New Belgium. Jolly Pumpkin is almost exclusively a sour beer brewery, but the other two each have a couple of sour beers that are popular nationally in addition to their large portfolio.
    Jolly Pumpkin: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/9897/
    Goose Island: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1146/
    New Belgium: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/192/

Look at each brewery's page, click on the column header for Style to arrange the list alphabetically, and scroll down to Sour or Wild Ale to see the offerings. (Sometimes the Farmhouse/Saison category has beers that are tart/sour, so you could also look at them.) Choose a beer that has many reviews, which means it's likely a nationally-distributed beer that you should be able to find, and read some reviews.

It's been years since I've had the beers from Goose Island or New Belgium, so I don't want to recommend any of their sours, but if one sounds good to you, go for it. The Jolly Pumpkin beers are all good. I'm partial to La Roja and Maracaibo Especial. Take a look and choose what sounds interesting.

    Good luck.

The 'best' Pumpkin Ale to produce a Chocolate Pumpkin is one with a pronounced spice character. It has been a long since I had a Southern Tier Pumpking but I seem to recall it being quite spicy.

    Cheers!

I'll definitely have Celebration at hand and I'm definitely contemplating the SA mix pack. I usually enjoy something a bit lighter with all the amazing flavors that'll be going on. I do like a nice hearty stout afterwards while watching football so maybe I'll see if I can find something of the link. Right now I have:

    SN Celebration
    Anchor's Christmas Ale
    Homebrewed Oktoberfest and Amber Ale
    SA Old Fezziwig
    SA Holiday Porter

I usually plan on one or two "special" beers. The rest is whatever sounds good that day. So, this Thanksgiving, the "special" beer is Birthdaywine from Fonta Flora. Which is a double barrel-aged Barleywine. Matured for 13 months in bourbon barrels and 7 months in blackberry wine barrels.
