I have showed up fashionably late and I am drinking my first ( and only ) King Henry. It seems no matter how many rave KH reviews you read you can't predict or anticipate how awesome this beer is. I think I now have a definitive answer to to the question 'what is your number one?'

Totally agree, one of the best beers I've ever had, and probably the best of the style. And you're not that late; I just had mine a week and a half ago.

I've said it before, but I don't mind repeating. It was awesome, but didn't scream barleywine to me. It was like a stout-barleywine hybrid that had a TON of barrel character. Not necessarily a knock, but it's kinda of in a class of its own to me....

I couldnt agree more. Which is why I didn't say it was the best barley wine I have ever had. I an agree on two accounts , I as a barley wine fan and my brother who is not as pronounced a fan, but we both agreed a terrific beer no matter what it's hybrid category

I agree! Top 3 beer that I have ever had. I rate it above Rare. So good! I want more! In a class of its own!

It's almost guaranteed to be worth the wait. I wonder how many will be able to report on an aged KH ?

Couldn't agree more. Had a tasting with king Henry, coffee, vanilla, and 06/11 bcs. King Henry was the hands down highlight of the night by everyone at the tasting.

before I start an ISO, an 09 BA Speedway should land a KH, yes?

Definitely agree with this. I enjoyed Rare, but this blew it out of the water. The saddest thing about Rare not being made again is that there will be no more KH.

Now, for me, it's the question of which GI beer is better: KH or BCBS Coffee? I love them both.

It's indeed awesome stuff. ISO: KH x4 FT: Rare

I thought KH was delicious, but not "out of this world" like everyone is describing. Firestone Sucaba was just as enjoyable (to me) and that's distributed more widely and yearly. Bligh's was just as enjoyable as well. JMO

Very good beer. We had it the other day against. Wooden Hell, Blighs, Ba Hi-Fi, Great and others.

Came in a very close second for me behind Wooden Hell, 4.75 to 4.7.

    Cheers!

    Bligh's is better IMO.

Same here. I wasn't actively letting myself get high expectations, but even those diminished ones weren't met. I don't think it's head-and-shoulders above Abacus (on tap, at least) or MOAS. It was good, but it's definitely not in my all-time top 10.

It was good, but I put it 4th in the order of Wooden Hell, BA Hi-Fi Rye, King Henry then Blighs, still damn good, just a tad too sweet.

Abacus is my favorite barley wine, but I am yet to try KH. I am patiently waiting for my next box from the USA that has both KH and Rare :grinning:
