Just a heads up, Savor posted on their facebook/tweeted that they have a case of last years KBS and if you leave a comment/retweet your name they'll hold a bottle for you for pickup. They're seems to be about ten left and they just posted it fifteen minutes ago. Only open to people who are already facebook friends/twitter followers. No idea on price - hoping it's not ridiculous..
What's up with that place? We went in there a year ago or so, when it was still the Clintonville Market(went because Weiland's was closed and we were just trying to score some beers) and they were just starting to carry a bunch of craft beers, along with the usual carry-out vices. Went in again a month or two back(we're from out of town, a good friend lives in Columbus) and they had the place all changed around, tons of beer, not so much on the carry-out vice stuff. And they had some White Rajah, in the back, which we had to ask for. Felt like a drug deal of sorts. And now they're breaking out the KBS they've been sitting on for close to a year? Not that I'm complaining, I'll go there again 'cause it's close to my buddy's house, but what a strange turnaround.
ehhh. it's strange. my vote is still out. don't get me wrong - they're one of the ones i frequent the most and i almost never leave empty handed, but yes- definitely some awkward principles at work there...
Agreed. They have a habit of holding back limited things they get until other stores in the area sell out, and then charging more for them than others did (like $12 for FFF bombers that every other store sold for $8) and a few times I've gone in for something they advertise having on their Facebook and am told that I have to come back later in the day for their 'tasting event' to buy it - even though the Facebook didn't mention anything about that. That's happened to me twice now and it's kind of annoying as it takes me 20 minutes to drive out there. That said, I too frequent them and have found a lot of great things there. Always stop in when I'm in the area and spend money even when I tell myself I won't. I also heard the about Weber Mart converting to another Savor. Apparently they'll do growlers there, too.
I was in savor today before the list was full (one spot left) & was told that I couldn't buy a bottle because my name wasn't on the list... I made the choice to not pull out my phone & try to be the last name, and I'm not upset by it- I scored more than enough KBS this year & I probably would've been tempted to just try to trade it anyways- but it was just an awkward situation. I'm also not a huge fan of how any big/popular release is split into single bottles (great lakes xmas ale, kbs, backwoods bastard, expedition sout..) though I understand wanting to satisfy as many people as possible (and the truth is- that one bottle of backwoods was the only one that I was able to secure). The pricing/ late release has also helped- it was the only store I found Alpha Klaus at. Like I said, the verdict is still out for now..
Yeah, I think we paid $1 more for the six of White Rajah. Which isn't a big deal, just kinda irritating.
I think I was one of the last to sign up on Facebook, since I thought Twitter would work and used that initially. I was grateful to get a bottle of KBS since I didn't get very much this year. I do, however, still have plenty of Backwoods. and I'd be happy to get you some since you only had one bottle....and you not getting on "the list" for KBS might be the only reason I was able to get one.
