Tonight's Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup:

1) La Doña Fría (5.1%): A Vienna lager from Minnesota brewed with corn maize for flavors of bread crust, honey, and slightly rich amber notes underneath. Heavier and sweet.
versus
2) Ottakringer Vienna Lager (5.3%): A Vienna lager from Germany with flavors of toasted bread malt, authentic and earthy German Munich malts. Toasty, flavorful, yet dry.

3) Bent Paddle Bent Hop Golden IPA (6.2%): A golden IPA from Minnesota that has flavors of resinous grapefruit, berry, dank pine and herbs. Resinous, yet bitter.
versus
4) Summit Twenty-One IPA (7.0%): An IPA from Minnesota brewed with 7 hops for balanced flavors of grapefruit citrus, tropical fruit, and bitter pine on the finish. Seven hops and balanced.
(Both pairs incorrectly matched blind... an off-night I guess)

Winners:

2) Ottakringer Vienna Lager: This one was lighter and cleaner, but had more authentically toasted Munich malt flavors. Less sweet amber malts as the La Doña Fría. Fantastic flavors and finishes dry.

3) Bent Paddle Bent Hop IPA: Personal preference, as this one was more dank and less balanced. I've had this one multiple times and found it enjoyable. Both are good MN IPAs.

 

Looooong day at work. Embalmed one first thing at 9 am, then cremated two, worked a funeral, caught up on some phone calls and confirmations I needed to make and some paperwork.

Finally home though!

Beer and NBA time! New 20th edition of Alpha Abstraction (XX) dropped so I had to grab a sixer as usual.




The mosaic is strong in this one. Lots of berry, tangerine, & mango notes on the palate. Solid stuff per usual.

A few tonight but another long day ahead tomorrow!

Founders Curmudgeon's Better Half Old Ale, 12.7% ABV. I should have stockpiled more of this, hope it returns soon. Damn it's good, and is holding up well at nearly four years old. Really is an old ale!

I was debating whether to open Spring tonight or another Maine Beer Company IPA. Ended up having Wood’s & Waters IPA.
