I've always like Bottle Logic barrel aged stouts A LOT. Fundamental Observation is my personal favorite BA vanilla stout. I tried the hazelnot/cocoa one (Motions of the Moon) and thought it was excellent. My thought is I'd either have to fly to CA to get it for whatever it costs there or pay for someone to ship it so didn't think $35 was unreasonable.

I wish Bottle Logic would have sent over a regular ol' barrel aged stout without all the sweet stuff. Oh well, maybe next drop!

“These are not the droids you’re looking for…”

Only one released by BL in the past year that was totally untreated without any adjuncts and it was released in CA in 2021, months before all of the bottles that have been dropped here the last two waves. Not saying it’s impossible but there hasn’t been one released yet in 2022 that would fit your bill. Good thing that’s one of Revolution’s strong suits!

Conversely, I am hoping we see the BL coconut barleywine around here before too long, maybe around the same time Rev drops Deth By Coconuts in July?

DO they even brew one like that?

Deprecophobia? I'm sitting on that bottle still, but it's burning a hole in my pocket. Somniphobia was spectacular.

I assumed they did...sounds like I'm wrong! Still, I can dream...

    I wasn't being a smart ass - I genuinely didn't know.

I've only had a few of their beers and all were given to me. FO and the coffee one - Red Eye I think? were not heavily adjuncted, but the other stouts all were. *

Arcane Rituals is an English barleywine thats barrel aged in a few types of barrels - that beer was awesome. Probably more up your alley.

    * Edit: by heavily adjuncted, I specifically mean the number of adjuncts, not the amount of the specific adjunct.

    Deprecophobia:

In early 2019 we summoned VooDoo Brewing to Anaheim to compare and combine our unique barrel aging techniques. We conjured a Double Mash Imperial Stout recipe built to withstand the curse of time in twelve extraordinary Heaven Hill bourbon barrels, where it stayed in silent slumber for two years.

There are no adjuncts, there is no post-barrel sorcery. Deprecophobia is a dripping portrait of grain, wood, and spirit.

Swirl a glass to awaken aromas of chocolate, leather, and brittle autumn leaves. Apparitions of raisin, cookie dough, and tootsie roll meld on the palate as shadows of brown sugar creep along the edges. Pinpricks of carbonation dissolve the sweetness, revealing the tobacco-toned oak tannin of a hauntingly dry finish.

    Somniphobia was this with coffee.

And while I'm at it, I've got a box to pack tonight and some Stranger Things episodes to watch. Me thinks I'll open Lost Coordinates...

They brought the non-adjunct BA stouts to FOBAB

This beer was such a banger. I had the pleasure of having a few samples at FOBAB. Good luck finding it now though, it's like 200+ on the secondary markets if you can find someone who has it... Maybe they'll release it again for the next FOBAB.

Speaking of adjuncts though, Fundamental Observation is the 'core' beer, the vanilla is pretty subtle there so it's pretty close to a plain BA stout.

ok I drank one. I enjoyed it! Not super-thicc, which is fine by me, but a nice whiskey / fruity thing going on that was good.

i also accidentally chugged a dragons milk triple mash and that was… pretty good.

Your review’s got me interested, any recent sightings of Lost Coordinates bottles still around the city?

Consumed my Lost Coordinates over the last 2 nights. Really a fantastic BA vanilla stout. The barrel is nice and pronounced, good viscosity. The vanilla is really well done in this beer, and I'm not always the hugest fan of vanilla stout. I know different regions produce different notes on the vanilla. Some more fruity/floral, others what I always perceive as buttercream frosting. This beer didn't lean too far in either direction and was just so enjoyable from start to finish.

CW Vanilla Rye Stout just showed up downstate. That and a BA Speedway are in the fridge right now for tonight's option. What a time we live in!

My experience is exactly the same - I haven't had a ton of their beers, but the BA ones I have tried all maintain great barrel flavor, even with all the additives.
