I went ahead and pre-ordered. I've got a bunch of ADWTD so I couldn't pass on a variant. FOMO makes me dumb.
I understand it. I think me missing a lot of other ADWTD releases makes me less likely to order this. That and I still haven't drank either year of ADWTD DO in my fridge. That's why I don't feel bad missing a lot of SP releases. I've had BBT twice (same batch), never had RBBT, Continuance, TWCP releases, etc. so I don't feel bad missing out on what I don't know. But even if I do know how good something is, I'm having a really difficult time committing to it at these price points (and for a delayed shipping time too.) I will say, I've now had one Anchorage BA beer and I was disappointed. Barrel character felt light. Perhaps it harkens back to what @Beer_Economicus was saying with the shorter aging windows per barrel. That experience made me much, much less likely to spend $50+ on a 375mL. We will see how (if at all) my opinion changes when I open up Blessed.
After having my Wendigo the other night it's pretty easy for me to pass on the rest of Anchorage's offerings. Why? Despite the hype, well, it's just another beer.
Yeah, I got B6K and DO ADWTD. Traded ADWTD as 2 of my friends also bought and I got to try it. Helped me finally land Assassin which is great. I did open a crate to try the new Anchorage. Also, Rusty Nail just dropped ($37) and I think that beer is fantastic so I added it. Wendigo wasn't very good IMO. Just overly sweet. And I can buy a 4 pack of SJ, save money, and get a better barleywine. And I was driving when A Deal With the Devil dropped. It sold out fast. I probably would've passed at that price for such an unknown... But yeah, I'd like to quit Tavour.
They've been hitting me where it hurts lately, lots of really quality stouts in the heat of summer. So yeah, I've been buying a fair amount lately (not the Evil beer, that seemed ridiculously priced).
Is that TW?! I guess it's worth noting that Tavour had the 2022 ADWTD DO for $70/bottle vs the $92.99 pictured.
That is total wine. Yeah. It's more than on tavour, but once you figure in shipping and all the beers I buy to round out a crate that I normally wouldn't buy it's a steal.
I ran into one ADWTD DO during my last Colorado trip. It was sitting behind the counter at a small liquor store in Denver. Intrigued, I asked for the price, thinking maybe I'd have a bottle to trade away. They had the same price as the TW in your photo. Made it pretty easy to pass. If DO is going for that much, TO may be well out of my price range at this point.
I need a local carrier again. I have to stop the four hour round trip to Erie PA. It adds another $50-60 in gas for my Hemi V-8.
Yeah, DO $70, TO $100. I mean, I bought ‘em, but that’s when I had to get off the FOMO wagon. I passed on Medianoche Reserve $37 for a 500ml. Maybe I’m on the road to recovery.
But barleywine, bruh. Joking aside, I am more likely to spend too much money on BWs compared to stouts because god tier BWs are much more rare than god tier stouts. Personal opinion, but I suspect the same reasoning follows for others.
I did buy a few coconut Medianoche. Now that I know their stout style more, I find it a bit too syrupy. Maybe some more time in a shelf will balance it more, but we’ll see.
I’ve come to like BCBW 2017 a LOT, Straight Jacket, Fremont B5K, and Bear Temper…the last of which is now impossible to find other than the one in the “special” beer fridge, courtesy of @Resistance88. But then I also like MOAS, Mortalis BA Bacchus….oh wait this is the stout thread. LOL! I’m safe. This the Tavour thread.
