Tonight's Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup:

    1) Schell's Lake Escape Kölsch 4.5%):
A Kölsch-style beer from Minnesota with flavors of vinous grape and cereal malts. Medium-bodied.
    versus
    2) Utepils Skölsch! (4.9%): A Kölsch-style beer from Minnesota with flavors of citrus, smooth pale malt, and a strong bready yeast.

    3) Pipeworks Water Balloon Toss Champs (7.0% canned 5/26/22 ): A NEIPA from Chicago with Mandarina Bavaria tangerines, plus Citra, and Mosaic hops for flavors of orange, tangerine, with a tart, juicy finish.
    versus
    4) Toppling Goliath Radiant Haze (7.0% canned 5/13/22 ): A NEIPA from Iowa with Citra, Amarillo, Mosaic & Sabro hops for flavors of orange citrus, citrusflower, aromatic pineapple.
    (Both pairs correctly matched blind)
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Winners:

    2) Utepils Skölsch:
My favorite American Kölsch so far, probably because the flavor profile. Robust biscuit and bready yeast flavors while still having some of the citrus and orchardfruit yeast flavor.

    4) Toppling Goliath Radiant Haze:
Truly fantastic stuff, and glad I bought a 4-pack when I could. It's like a mix between Pseudo and King Sue. The citrus and floral component of Pseudo Sue, yet the larger body of an IPA. A summer TG release worth it's while....
...Pipeworks was good, but the problem with adding juice to hazy beer is it kills the mouthfeel. It had great flavor, but the creamy mouthfeel quality of a NEIPA was destroyed with the juice in my opinion.

Evening BAs. Last Sip of Sunshine on hand, but I suspect that will be remedied by this weekend at the latest.

It’s kind of curious how some brewers have plenty of co2 and Nightshift is scrambling.
Those articles sound like maybe CBC got some bad gas.

This batch of Hamm's smells bad, tastes not quite right, but as is typical I didn't pay much for it, so what can I say. Just chase it with some also cheap bourbon, good good. Cheers!!! :beers:

Drinking a Stone IPA. Apparently the recipe changed.
All praise due to the Monday morning QBs who have warned us about not having an opinion on music unless you shared the exact same zip code, or went to church w/ the artist's mother on Sunday. What would we ever do w/o your infinite wisdom? Cheers to the mother-f*cking-know-it-alls of this world. I love you.

    Avery Brewing Co. -- Imperialis
Imperial stout aged for six months in bourbon barrels
    ABV: 12.7%; pouring temperature: 51 °F; bottling data: APR 25 2022

    4.13/5 rDev -3.3%
    look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Deep, dark brown body, opaque; thick and densely spongy head, light khaki color; thick, sticky sheets of foam curtain the glass. Rich, dark chocolate and cocoa aroma; very light char note. Rich dark malt flavor; baker's and milk chocolate plus cocoa; bold whiskey presence; low bitterness; moderate alcohol phenol presence; very light oak note. Heavy mouthfeel yet soft and velvety on the palate; huge boozy heat offsets the residual sugars.

This is a very likeable barrel aged imperial stout. The base beer is righteous while the bourbon barrel character cuts through like a healthy neat shot of your favorite straight whiskey. Maybe a little hot on the palate, but I'm thinking some judicious bottle aging will mellow this one out for the better.

I really dig this - but fresh strawberries are my favorite fruit, and this has LOADS of berry flavors, so I was hooked at hello. Absolutely love it.
