I'll throw out Urban Roots and New Glory in the Sacramento area as makers of great west coast ipas. There's also this little place in Sonoma County, named after a river, they've got one beer named after some pig and one about some old Greek dude that are pretty good. I hear they make other good hoppy beers too

Check out Freemont, and I'll second Pizza Port mentioned above. Port Wipeout is clear, dryish and bitter. I wish I could still get it.

I only mentioned places that bottle/can with some level of distribution. I bypassed Cannonball and Liquid Mechanics, too.

No mention of ska? Modus Hoperandi is still a favorite of mine.

I wouldn't necessarily consider that one to be "West Coast." At least not in the classic sense. To me, that's when the breweries in San Diego (and Portland + Seattle, too) went to a drier, paler, more purely bitter and weedy sort of IPA. I love Modus as much as anyone, but I think of it as a better 90 Minute or Hop Devil.

Historical accuracy didn't seem like it added the right tone to my tongue in cheek post:grin:

The best. But you sort of have to go there, or somewhere it’s on tap.

The best West Coast IPA I have had recently was at Thirsty Eye Brewing in Albuquerque, NM called El Drak. Fresh at the brewery, it is excellent. Hope to come across more like it!

[IMG] This is a really good WCIPA from Dancing Gnome, “Swingin at Strangers “. Since you’re in Georgia, have you tried Port Brewing’s “Mongo”?
